Need help with wheels/tires. Widebody
So I've got widebodies that flare out 30mm.
Question is what backspacing I need to not have to use spacers. I'm looking for 16x7s at least. I don't really want to go much taller than 16, but could. I wouldn't mind going wider than 7, but it may not be needed, or even possible.
Anyone?
Again, the fenders are widebodies with an extra 30mm of width.
I don't have any recent picts, but these are the fenders prior to fitting:
I currently have the stocker 15x6 wheels with 205 tires

I was planning on going with 30mm flared fenders all the way around for my FC a while ago... but I decided against it. Here was the setup I was going to use:
17x9 fronts, 10-15mm offset, with a 255 tire.
17x10.5 rear, with 10-15mm offset, 285 tire.
If all you want to run is a 7" wide tire, there is no reason for the flared fenders. Im running 17x8 front, and 17x9 rear now, with a 235/40r17, and 255/40r17 tires, under stock fenders. There may even be room for a 10" wheel out back, but it is close, and may require a bit of fender rolling.

Ok, so since i haev them, I'd like to use them. I like the setup you listed.
So the stockers have 40mm backspacing. We remove the 30mm and have 10mm spared. Is there enough clearance to ok the 5mm you suggested on 15 mm?
What size tires do you think I should go with? I didn't no how wide I could go with the fenders, but up to 9"s? thats awesome...

Isnt the whole point of getting a widebody so you can fit wider rims/tires without rolling the fenders? It'll look funny if you put the wide fenders on with the stock wheels. Get at least a 9" in the rear.

Front fenders are typically replaced.
Rears needs to be heavily "massaged" - see recent thread by Hyperrex.
The rears need to be modified, or else compression of the suspension on the tires will cause the tires to contact the fender arch.

So even with wide rears, you still have to do alot of body work other than cutting/pasting? (well, you know)
What about a suspension fix for the issue?

The rears require a ton of work to get it done properly. Thats the reason I opted not to do it. Id hate to hack up my mint body FC, just to have the seams cracking years down the road. Its not really just a cut, paste job. With just the front flares, you could go 17x9 all around, with a 255 tire, which would be nice.

sooo... 17x9's would fit in the back? I'd have to keep the same 40 backspacing though, while using the 10 backspacing (or 40 and 30 spacers) upfront?
Would widefenders only in the front look weird? (or at least better than the two crushed/dented front fenders I have right now)

Front only widefenders dont look bad. For the offset for 17x9 in the rear, Id suggest a +30-35 offet. Trust me Ive dealt personally with alot of wheel setups. My old Volk GTPs were 17x9 +40, and with a 255, they were WAYYYY too close to the suspension in the rear. I mean, lucky if you could slide a piece of paper between the tire and the lower control arm. The Enkei RPM2s that I have on there now are a 17x9 with a +35 offset, and are a bit better, but there is still a bit of room to move them further out if wanted. They arent close to rubbing the fender.

Just so im understanding this correctly, less backspacing (a lower number) would mean the wheels/wheelbase will be closer to the fender, and farther from the hub, correct?
So a 17x9 could use a 30 backspace and clear both suspension, rotor/brake, and fender?
If I was going to do that, I would probably get the matching wheels for the front, and just get 30mm spacers. Think it would be alot more convienient than trying to deal with two different wheels.
Also, whats a good series tire on a 17 wheel. I can't remember the rules for stepping on wheel size.

If I'm going to get different wheels, I mgiht as well get some nice direction-specific tires too, since rotation=remounting anyhow.
EDIT: If I have say.. A $1000 budget for both wheels and tires 17x9 and 255r40, do you think I could do it?
