Need help with Speaker upgrade in a 87 T2
I want to upgrade my factory speakers as I just picked up a Pioneer CD deck. What size are the front speakers and what about the rears? Someone said you can fit an 8 inch round speaker back there...is that true? If I take apart that tub in the rear shock tower, what size speaker can I put into it? Thanks guys.

I have all MB Quart Q-series. 6" drivers in the stock door locations, tweeters inside the side window defoggers and 6 1/2" coaxials in the rear shock towers.

call crutchfield (numbers on crutchfield.com). They have the correct speaker sizes, adapters to fit 6.5" in the rear, wiring harness adapters (no cutting), the BEST double din adapter kit, etc..
For my 91 TII it was 6.5" in the doors (required spacers for additioal depth), 5" under the dash (oddball size - used 5" polk), 6.5" in the rear (required spacers for width).

Use Polk EX series!
I JUST finished my speakers in my 87 TII. The 87's don't have the door speakers and the front speakers are only a 4"....you can fit an 8" anything in the rear strut towers. I have this set up:
Kenwood Head unit
passive EQ with a custom METAL install kit. MUCH BETTER THAN PLASTIC!
4" Polk EX fits "like a glove" with the stock screw holes and sounds really good! Just get some good power to them.
6.5" Polk EX for the rear towers. They sound really nice also and I had a set of 1988 6.5" metal adapters to make them fit. The stocks are 5", but are hard to replace in the stock plastic cover.
5" SAS seperates in the doors......I am custom mounting these this week. Hard to install, but they sound so awesome you wouldn't believe it! Have to cut the door to do it.
10" SAS Bazooka in the back.
2 amps in the rear passenger storage compartment. All my 87's have been installed this way and they have all sounded really clean. Cut as little as possible. Crutchfield will work great if you want to use the stock amps, but for aftermarket amps it's hard to use the connectors.
Hope that helps,
Greg

Thanks for you guys help. I have an 87 car, so I guess it takes 4" in the fronts. Is it better to put a speaker in that tub in the back shock tower or replace the whole thing with an 8" speaker? Which gives you better bass response?
