Need help soon!

Its an 89 N/A.
So yesterday was the first day it rained in arizona since my car has been here and then it got really cold too. I go to start it and it whines like the starter isnt engaging. Its not the battery, we jumped it and checked it and I can still run my sub off of it... the car is from washington so I dont know why it would be from the cold.. I need to fix this asap! thanks

did the starter turn the engine over at all, or did it just sit there and whine?
if you really think its the starter, a remanned one can be had for about 80 to 130 bucks (not including the core charge) if you have a autoparts chain near you.

starter was turning, but now that i got more information, I think what happened was the engine flooded because last night I turned the car on briefly and then turned it off. This happened before when my brother was using it. sound about right?
