Need help with reverse lights

I have a week and a half to fix two problems on my car so as it gets through state safety inspection and my tags don't get suspended. One of my problems is that the reverse lights don't light up when the car is put into reverse.

The lights themselves are fine, so I figure the problem to be electrical (probably the switch for the lights). Where is the swtich for the reverse lights located? My guess is on the transmission, but where? I believe the transmission was replaced a few years ago on my car, so that could explain somebody forgetting to hook up the switch or damaging it or something. Has anybody else had this problem? What was your solution? The car is an '88 GXL 5 speed. TIA,

-rich

ok theres a reverse and 5th gear sensor on the left side closer to the top...remember this is looking towards the front of the car...check those wires they usually break off after time...they tend to become weak...but your best bet is to solder them back on...
