need help with oil leaking tranny
long story short it seems I have oil leaking from the breather valve of my transmission. if you look at the picture I found (yes I know this is a fd tranny but close enough) you will see a small breather valve on the right side of the actual gear case, this is were I believe the oil is coming from. it's hard to tell but from feeling around from under the car this seems to be the only place oil could come from. I know it is leaking from the top area because I can see it running down the side of the case.
does any one know why oil would be leaking from there? I don't really wanna drop my tranny and install another breather if there is something else causing it to leak in the first place.

AG: I would agree with you but then why has it started doing out of the clear blue. I bought this car back in august and have been driving all the time and then 3 months later it starts to leak. I would think that if its to full it would have done this from the beginning right?
so any one else? no one has anything to say?

Well then it's probably the extension housing leaking. There is supposed to be some oil in the extension housing, and there's a gasket that goes on the side cover, a seal that goes around the shift lever, and a seal that goes to the shift tube from the extension housing. Any one of those points could have developed a leak. Most transmissions (from what I've seen) are so old and worn out that the oil just leaks through the shift tube in to the transmission, so any fluid that gets put in the extension housing just goes away after a bit. If yours isn't leaking internally, then it may have eventually found its way out. If it concerns you (and it would me, because oil leaking out near the exhaust is dangerous) then pull the transmission mount and let it come down a bit so you can see where the leak is. You may be able to see it from inside the car if you remove the **** and shift boot.
