Need help with Oil Cooler
Need help with Oil Cooler
Hey there guys, I'm a long time RX fan that drives an S13, anyways, I have a problem. I pulled the Oil
Cooler from a 2nd Gen RX-7 (Series 3, I think) and I want to remove the stock lines and replace them with steel braided lines as an upgrade for my car(more oil capacity, improved cooling w/ electric fan swap) and I seriously don't know how to get the lines off, the bolts wont move(even with air tools or torque..er,hmm, hammer and vice grips). I need these lines out, I heard somebody saying these are "banjo fittings," if so, how do they come off. Sorry for the long post, thanks guys.

The line that goes to the side of the engine is a banjo fitting. It is a bolt that has a hole in the shaft to allow the oil from the line to enter in the engine. You need a certain 'mm' size socket and it should come off.
The other line attaches at the front of the engine. I am not sure on the sizes, but you should be able to use two wrenches that you turn two different directions to undo the front line. I did this and it came off, but it took a lot of effort. They really get stuck on there.
Just remember to apply lots of WD-40 to try and loosen up the bolts. Let it soak in and repeat as necessary. It would be bad to strip anything.
