Need help, no experience with rx7s and any cars for that matter

Im currently living in Australia and still in high school. Once I finish high school I plan on getting an 2nd gen rx-7 since they are cheap and because the anime Initial D influenced me.

Just wanted to know how I should go about picking a good 2nd gen rx-7 and what I should look for before buying one. There are too many different 2nd gen rx-7s for me to pick and I get lost at the no. of different rx-7s I've seen advertised, does anyone know where I can get information on all the models ever built for the 2nd gen rx-7 models.

I need to get a non-turbo (not allowed to drive turbos when I'm on Ls and Ps in Australia) and I basically want a car that I can spend my time racing with. Since there are so many different 2nd gen rx-7 models, could someone also tell me which ones I shouldn't get and which ones I should get?

Is there also any website where I can read up on everything there is to know about rx-7s (esp. the 2nd gen. rx-7s)? And is there a website for modding/tuning cars? I've never driven a car before because I am busy with my studies but once I finish my studies I plan on racing on circuits, I just want to start learning about the car, how to tune/mod it.

How should I go about learning about tuning cars and racing with them? Would an engineering degree be beneficial to my knowledge and expertise with cars? I was originally planning on doing a Bachelor of Commerce but I'm not sure if I should do a double degree Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering. The engineering part is solely for learning about cars, should I or should I not do this?

Thanks

As for learning about diff. models of the FC start out with the FAQ (top of the section) and the archives. I started there and had a little bit of an understanding when I got my first FC. This site has answered many questions that I've had....just have to take time searching. www.howstuffworks.com has a section on the rotary engine among other car stuff. i'm sure others will have more to chime in with.

The 2nd gen FAQ is a great resource that contains many helpful links. These includ how to buy guides, and much of the basic info concerning the car.

The engineering degree will help only if you plan on engineering new parts for your car.
Even if you get a degree in Mechanical Engineering you will only know how to design the parts and not machine them.

If you plan on doing totally custom mods it might be worth it, but if you are going to buy mods and install them dont spend the money on a dual degree.

Your concept of engineering is wrong.

Engineering:

The application of scientific and mathematical principles to practical ends such as the design, manufacture, and operation of efficient and economical structures, machines, processes, and systems.

You don't need an engineering degree to learn about cars.

Oh, and engineering wont be what you think it will be. It's alot of work, so be ready to buckle down with the books.

I am not majoring in Mechanical Engineering because I want to work on cars. I do it because I desire to make a difference in our future lives.
