Need help identifying electrical device, 90 S5 convertible

I have a 90 S5 convertible that has been converted into a LeMons car. Trying to clean up some clutter. In the cavity below the left headlight/front of the wheelwell I came across a fairly heavy fist sized square box with a thick wire bundle. The wiring runs over the left front wheel well and into the loom somewhere beyond that. Googling the part # comes up with nothing and it doesn't look like the airbag trigger. I can post a pic if needed but wondering if anyone knew what it was and whether removing it would cause my any issues.

Thx

Yeah, that's the air bag sensor. They are directional thus the arrow on it that points toward the front of the car.
