Need Help, Fuel Problem.

I got an 86 GXL. Will not start, has spark but no fuel. Fuel pump is not turning on at all, I heard the MAF sensor turns it on but don't know how to test either component and can't find a Haynes at any auto parts store, go figure. There are four wires going into the tank, blue, red, black and black with white stripe. Red wire reads about 6 VDC, all others read 0. I am assuming red is for the fuel gauge. Could be wrong. Where do I go from here? It starts with starting fluid.

Manual = http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_gen/

1. Have you replaced the fuel filter?
2. There is a yellow two pin connector near the passenger side shock tower... With the car turned off jump the 2 pins... then turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump... Dont start the car like this... I am not sure what it will do, but I am sure it will not be good...

1. No, I have not yet. It is not getting fuel out of the feed line directly from the tank. I will grab a filter when I go to the parts store for the ????? that I need to fix this problem. I also need to change out the hoses from the tank to the lines as they are in very bad shape. But I first need to worry about getting it started.
2. I jumped the connector. A little yellow one in a black rubber cover under the intake tubing from filter box to tb, right? It did nothing. Does any one know which wire is positive to the pump? If I give it voltage, it should pump if its good. If it does not, I know to look elsewhere.

Ok, put a jumper wire on that yellow two pin connector. And by the way, you can start the car that way, it won't hurt it.
Then put a multimeter on the connector for the fuel pump. With the key turned on, you should see 12V at that connector. If not, you need to check the main relay.
Do you hear a loud click when you turn the key on? If so, that is the main relay and it is working.
You can also check the fuel pump like you were saying, by applying 12V to the pump and see if it works.

You should be able to get a used Haynes manual off of ebay, or order one at Amazon or Barnes and Noble. In the meantime use the factory service manual online.

Thanks guys, think I have located the problem. Fuel pump won't turn on when jumper is jumped, got power to it. Hard wired the pump and it won't turn on, and when I pulled it its a bright orange color, like rust and the casing is cracked. Not too much to narrow down now.
