need help with fuel injector closest to tb!
hey there, just wondering but for some reason my fuel injector closes to the throttle cable near the tb, is leaking fuel. now the problem im unable to find out specifically is if its a bad gasket or o-ring or what. the car is a 1989 rx7 n/a with 130k miles. do you think its time to put on a new o-ring for it? cuz once i start to drive it, i know its not safe to know that its leaking fuel, possibly on the exhaust manifold (not a pleasant thought). if anyone can suggest what to do, id appreciate it. btw, all the other fuel injectors seem to be fine? if anyone wants to see pictures to get a better understanding of it. let me know. thanks.
whatever that orange thing is, gas is leaking around that. im new to rx7s well car internally, generally, so idk if thats the pulsation dampner or not. any help is appreciated tho. thanks.

go to autozone and pick up a pack of replacement fuel injector orings. Pick up some rags, too.
Let the car cool off, remove the intake tube and elbow on the throttle body. I would unplug the vacuum hose and both fuel hoses to the rail, but you might be able to have enough slack to move the rail with all that connected.
Unbolt the rail, raise it up, be prepared to catch fuel with the rags when you remove your injectors from the rail. Remove both upper orings, reinstall the next closest fit. Lube them with motor oil, be sure the rail is dry, work the injector into the rail in a circular motion. Bolt it down, and if need be reinstall the hoses.
Now find the yellow check connector on the passenger strut tower by the airflow meter. Put a wire in there to jumper the connectors. Turn your key on and check for fuel leaks. Now put the intake together and you're done.

i went to autozone and sadly for me, they were out of any type of o rings or rubber/silicone gaskets for the rx7. it had like over 40 gaskets for the car missing, so ill either try this week to go by some other car part stores and hopefully ill have better luck. thanks for telling me a how-to on injectors. i wouldve asked how to sooner or later. haha u saved me from starting a new thread. last question, how long do you think the whole process or removing the intake and replacing everything takes? thanks again.

no, back where all the "help" items are, not behind the counter. there are usually packs of general orings and stuff back there, they even have a/c orings.
I know when I went they ordered a injector kit with all the o-rings/grommets. It came the next day.
No clue about the "Help" items, but if Kevin says they work, they probably do.

so i went to mazda and they charged me 7.20 a piece for 4 of them, and i cant remember the price for 8 more o ring injectors. anyways it amounted to 12 pieces. question is why 12 pieces of rubber for a fuel injector when theres only 2 injectors? the total price including tax was $63. wtf.

there are 4 injectors. Each has an upper fuel sealing oring, and an upper grommet which helps hold it in place. They also have a lower plastic pintle cap which helps the spray pattern and seating, and a lower grommet which helps seal them from becoming a vacuum leak at the manifold (or a fuel leak, for that matter) and keeps them in place.
Im not sure that mazda sells pintle caps individually, but it sounds like you got 4 each of upper orings, upper grommets, and lower grommets. Which is what you need to do the job right anyway.

as of now a fuel injector is leaking. i cant find out why but someone suggested getting new o-rings. so do you think the chance of the injector leaking will go down if i replace it with new ones?

Do you have any understanding at all of what you are dealing with? You say "I dont know why, but someone suggested replacing o-rings".
I'm not sure you should be working on this car, if you are serious.
To answer your question, the o-ring makes the seal between the injector and the rail where the fuel pressure is. So obviously if you have a fuel leak at the injector, the o-ring is the first thing to look at.

im into cars and all and the fc is the first car im actually "putting work into" anways my dad suggested replacing the o-rings cuz theyre leaking. i do have the maintenance manual by haynes and the fsm, im just too lazy to look at it right now. plus i cant because we're encountering ernesto and i dont have a garage so its a problem right now cuz i cant get to my car, nor look under the hood w/o getting drenched.
hah yeah pouring rain, heavy winds. not to mention the cars on all jack stands. heh btw, i looked in the maintenance manual and on one of the injectors i was able to tell 2 o -rings that go on it.

U also have orings on the fuel injector air diffusers.
the GP sorenson kit has all of the orings, enough for 2 injectors.
