Need help with electrical(interior)
ok i just removed my dash because im gel coating it. What im wondering is where do all the grounds go and if there is a good reference for eletrical diagram's besides haynes, chilton. Those are no help to me. Im trying to install aftermarket radio and a couple guages but first i need to find a good diagram of all the interior electrical components. The reason i ask is when i put the negative on the battery i keep blowing my 7.5 interior fuse. Also with no key in the ignition or any thing else in the interior(controls for hvac etc) the weird thingy on the passenger side comes on. Wtf is this by the way lol its scaring me. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks, kevin.

oh yeah just thought id add that a wire that i believe is a ground (has a little tap for screw on it) was just hanging right in the middle of where the dash was(radio surround) I dont know if this was attached to a wire or what. Also i was wondering if anyone knows what will happen if I where to just put the ground wire back into a lose wire? Would this damage anything besides not completing the circuit and blowing another fuse? AHHH i hate electrical heeh.

Look at the very last set of diagrams in the FSM wiring section- this will show the OEM grounding points...This manual will also help you with the 7.5A interior fuse layout, so that you can locate components & wiring you might have "played with" that are blowing the fuse...
If it's an OEM wire, and has a ring terminal at the end, it's most likely a ground...Be sure to check for voltage with different components on in the area though to be certain...

thanks ill try the fsm, yeah the previous owner hacked the interior harness up, he rigged up some power windows and alarm which makes it difficult. Anyone ever heard of a ground wire just connected to bare metal? What i mean is not connect to anyother wire, but both sides are connected to metal one bolted on and the other is twisted on? thanks again, kevin.

Metal-to-metal wiring is refered to as bonding, used to ensure the same negative "potential" exists throughout the car...Although in your case, it doesn't sound like it's a bonding strap...

well its right in front of the heater box thing so i dont know if thats what the wire was there for but like i said when i removed the dash it was just sitting there. The only ground im aware of in the interior after removing the dash at least on an 86 is for the sunroof but i dont know anything lol. Anyway ill try the fsm tonight. Im going to print all of it out ahah my printer is getting owned. late, kevin.
