Need help to bring out my RX's potential

My '88 vert is a little quirky. I have only had it for about 3 weeks now and I've slowly been fixing and adjusting and replacing simple things that I know how to do. I'm still in need of some help with a few othe rproblems.

1. My speedometer doesn't work. It goes up and down sumtimes but its not reading my correct speed. Also it sits at about 36mph when the car is parked and turned off. I've pulled the fuse and unpluged the negitive on the battery but it still stays up. Any ideas?

2. Mybe this is just the crappy stereo in the car but the side speakers and the headset speakers don't appear to be doing anything.

3. Okay, its aconvertable and the top has rips in the 4 places where the tops always have rips. Maybe in a few months to a year I'll have the $600-$800 to have it replaced but in the mean time has anyone tried patching their vert top? I mean I really don't car if the patch job is next to fugly but I just don't like the rips and I'm worried about some body just pulling on them and making them worse. Also, does anyone know if your insurance would pay a portion to have that replaced? Mine replaced my windshield for free but I never knew my policy covered stuff like that.

Thanks
Max

there is a cable leading from the speedometer to something that has gone bad, you can probably pick up the part at pepboys, autozone, or a mazda dealership, this happened on my old honda accord, it should be a easy fix.

Is that the speedometer cable or is it some electrical wire?

It's a cable that is attached at one end to the transmission, and the other to the gauge cluster.
