NEED HELP ASAP! Car Caught fire!
Well I hooked everything up today on my turbo conversion.
I put the battery in and put the key ion the ignition.
The guages worked fine and then I went to crank it over.
Then......BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see smopke rising from under the hood.
The starter caught fire!!!!
I ran and got a hose and drenched my engine bay and luckily it didn't get to the fuel lines.
I saw the aftermath.
The rubber boot around the starter blew apart and was then burning.
SOOOOO.
WTF did I do wrong????
I did bleed the clutch line about a half hour before and some brake fluid ran down the side. ou think that caused it?
I am thinking that plus maybe wrong wiring.
I checked all my fuses and they're still good so it looks like it stayed in that spot.
This is how I had the wires put on.
The one main hardnesws wire went to the starter. Then the other big gage wire went to a bolt as a ground.
Did i mix it up?
Thx in advance. I have to get this running tonight!

The rubber boot on the main +ve terminal of the starter fried?
What size fuse are you running inline with that wire, must be HUGE if it didn't break...
Also im a bit unsure with your grounds...
Which 'other' big guage wire?
Where does it run exactly? there is no ground that runs directly off the starter you know?

The ground wire from the battery goes to the engine block as a ground. I put mine on the big bolt that goes through starter, tranny bell housing, engine, ground cable, then a nut on the end.
The positive goes to the starter solenoid. There are two terminals on the starter solenoid that are the same size. One should already have a wire coming on it. This wire comes out of the starter motor body and goes to a terminal on the solenoid. The positive from the battery goes to the other terminal on the solenoid. Then, the ignition wire goes on the tab, can't get that wrong.
Make sure the cables are connected to the battery properly and are not grounding against anything. And don't spray water on an electrical fire. I guess you had no choice, but its always good to have a dry chemical (type A, B, and C) fire extinguisher handy.

Yeah I didn't have a choice.
The fire was getting big.
I think I figured out what happened.
The positive terminal which connects to the starter was resting against the metal side of the starter. I think it arc'd and just started the fire.
I've just wrapped it in electrical tape a lot and have bent the positive out so it is away from the side.
As soon as that happened I pulled the keys out of thenignition so power stopped going throuigh the start wires at that point. I have the negative barely on this time so I can yank it quickly off and then spray the **** out of any fire that might occur.

yup that was it. It arc'd to the side.
I got it to turn over now.
Now here is the new problem!!!!!!
I got it running anndddd............
It rev'd up because the throttle cable is really tight.
How dpo I reduce it?add slack?
NEXT!!!!!!!!
It started running and I saw the rev's going up so I pulled the keys out of the igntion and it KEPT GOING!!?
What would have caused it to do this? Anyone done it before?
I ended up pushing the throttle all the way down to kill the engine.
PLS Help

hhmmm what do you think this would do?
So your speaking of the ring terminal wire and the 2 wire plug for the warning lights.
I really want to under stand this before I try it again since the throttle cable is set really tight and the rpm's for to aroudn 5k which I instantly tried to stop.
So the next time I turn it over I'll have soime one sitting neat the EGI fuse ready to pul in case it goes too high.
