Need Help

Let me preface this by saying that I'm new to the forum and to RX-7's. I found an '86. I can't tell what model but I do know the egine is a 13-B and it runs pretty good. The car has two seats and any distinguishing decals have either faded or been removed over time.
The engine has 170k miles on it. The car would make a great project car. I think I can talk the guy down from $1,000 to $900 bucks. What should I look for? Would this make a good purchase? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

170 probably = new motor. Please try doing a search for used car tips or something similar. Smooth idle is good and if you can do a comp test that would be great.

Do a compression test on the engine and hope for 90 PSI (this will probably be debated or quoted later on with people who suggest higher or lower). Best thing you can do is take it for a test drive and check the electrical stuff as that seems to be what usually never works. Ill get you a link to a "Buying a rx7" guide when i get home.
