Need gtu and gtus help.......

I,ve got a 89 n/a s5 that has no power windows or power door locks and no cruise control or rear wiper.the hood i have is a steel hood unless the aluminum hood is heavy but as i looked on the hood it says the car is equipped with l.s.d. and the gtu or gtus sign has been painted over.is there anything in the interior like speakers or panels that can distinguish the gtu from the gtus.also its got a pop up sun roof not power.it didn,t come with the stock rims so i have no idea can anyone help me?

check the sticker on the driverside door(where it says about manufacture data, weight, etc). if it say 16 inch for rims, then it is GTUs. otherwise, it is GTU.

Nope, non turbo coupe VINs come up the same regardless of model.

But RR, The wheel size sheet is the easiest way, but what are you looking at that claims it has a LSD???

S5 TII rims, you should be reading 4000 rpms @ 80 mph for the special 4.3 rear end & trans gearing, no map pockets, door jam should be reading stock TII rim TIRE size, look at your rear end and if no one messed with the diff it should say something like "limited slip fluid only" on a tag on the rear end, also should have black interior and be in the colors of blaze red, noble white and brilliant black (I just typed this like 5 seconds ago)

Well i got black interior thats for sure but i dont know if the rear has a tag on it.i,ll have to wait until it comes out.but did the gtus come with a flip up sunroof?or was it put in.and it didn,t come wit stock rims so i,ll have to check the door jam.but wuts the door jam weight of the gtus.

i don't think it says that, i'm not sure on that, sunroofs were not standard on gtus but it could have been a dealer installed option, just go 80mph and see how much rpms your reading thats the most definte way.

I am pretty sure you have a GTU. As far as I know there were no GTUs with a sunroof.

Well he said he has a pop up sun roof, not powered.. so If its a manual sun roof, could be a custom job, or a dealer install.. which could have been done. I seen pictures of a gtus that had a dealer installed sunroof before.

take a magnet to the hood- if it sticks its a GTU, if not GTUs(Unless it's one of those pesky aluminum magnets, then it's the reverse...). Also as suggested above check the wheel size on the sticker attatched to the drivers side door. The aluminum hood is surprisingly heavy. It's far heavier than the crappy steel replacement on my miata so....

There's nothin more to tell you. Everything to distinguish what it is is basically here already.

I misread the first post. I think the car is probably a GTUs then.

Coupe S5 weight was all the same regardless of year, only the model options changed the wieght.

The weights are found in the Standard and Options stickly thread at the top of this 2nd gen technical section. There is even a page for the GTUs there.

And you question has been answered. What more help do you need?

Seemed like a lot of dealers did that... don't know why... probably were not selling the car as they should have and instead they thought they had a base stippy model.

my GTUs has an aftermarket installed pop-up sunroof as well. Someone installed it before I got hold of the car.

they gave you all the info that can easily distinguish it from a gtu or a gtus......

-door tag..... if it states on the driver side door jamb that the car was equipped w/ 16" rims... then you have a gtus...... if it says 15" rims... gtu...... that is absolutely the easiest way to i.d a gtus........
but odds are not in your favor that it is!!
