Question need exhaust advice

Hi Gang,
I'm making great progress on restoring an '87 T2, and need to know more about exhaust (actually muffler) options.
I've seen lots of mufflers on ebay for very cheap. However, I don't know anything about what's available and what's important to consider before purchase.
I'm doing a stock/factory restoration, and would like to retain the look and sound (i.e. really quiet) of a new 2nd gen.
Can one of you clue me in on what i need to know?

Thanks,000,000

You should go and read up on RX-7 exhausts, as the rotary burns nearly twice as hot as a piston engine does. It will burn through regular system in no time. Here's a link to an exhaust narrative: http://www.mazdatrix.com/e1.htm. When I got my car, it had an exhaust leak and I ended up getting a full Racing Beat system (from the manifold back) and it's great! It's nice and quiet at idle and cruising around, but when I floor it gets nice and loud with a great low note at around 3000RPM. I have absolutely no complaints, even with the cost as it is a very high quality piece. Also with the removal of the cats I can shoot flames out the back at will and it's accompanied by a nice loud BANG! If emissions are a concern you can get a Bonez cat and header combo that should pass the emissions test. Good luck.

Pay the extra money, get the Racing Beat turbo-back system. It's worth every last penny, I know, I have one.

My Racing Beat cat back sounds SOOOOOO freakin GOOD!!!

Its got to be the best balance between tone/loudness and performance I have ever seen!

Its nice and quiet at low revs, then it opens up at high revs. I am completely impressed.
