Exclamation need clrification on T2 question PLS (yes i searched)

ok so i sold my 86 NA and bought a 87 TII that's been sittin in my drive way for enough time. the engine is suppose to be a j-spec but it has little compression on one rotor and none on the other so i'm going for the rebuild. BUT it so happens that the mechanic that just workd on my brothers 240 happens to have a rebuilt S4 NA motor in his shop. NOW my question is what is the difference between a NA and TII shortblock. i thought i was pretty sure i knew the answer to it, but now that i am in this situation, i want to know exactly how it is. i want to know if i could use that shortblock for my TII. i am growing desperate and frustrated as i need this car to go to school and work.!! Thanks for your time, help, and replies.

Did you do the comp yourself? Did you try putting some oil or ATF in the sparkplug holes for comp?

Get the motor in your TII rebuilt!

ATF works but if you already have some compression. As for the differance in the blocks, the n/a has the secondary ports

The difference in a complete short block is that NA runs a higher compression, smaller seals and has the 5th and 6th ports. All in all not a good combo for trying to slot into a turbo set-up. Plus you will have to do some sort of a conversion to get TII manifolds and thus the turbo intake and exhaust to fit onto a NA block. Better off rebuilding the TII engine you have. If you buddy rebuilds NA's the TII is pretty much the same thing as far as the rebuild process goes, he shouldn't have any trouble with it.

yea i knew the ATF should help build compression but since they told me the rear rotor was gone, i didnt try it but i guess it wouldnt hurt to giv it a try. i got the engine to turn over by using the short unflood procedure but didnt turn on

thanks man. yea i guess it is better to rebuild the TII then since thats the main reason i let go of the other one and bought this one even tho it wasnt running neither. got another question, is there another good quality rebuild kit thats a little cheaper than atkins?? i mean i dont want to half-*** it b/c then there wouldnt be a point of rebuilding but i AM on a tight budget i mean i work part time and go to school. thanks a LOT
