Need to change Fuel Inj. How difficult?

My car is a 88 TII with basic mod..I have noticed that I've been getting only 10~11mpg and excessive fuel flooding..
So i thought I would take out the fuel injectors and send it off to RC engineering for balance/clean/blueprint because some people said it's from the injector stuck open or dripping..
I got a quote from local mechanic and he told me "$500" for doing the job.. Is this too expensive or what? I just need some advise on who to take it to get it done or find out how difficult it is to get to the injectors..

Thank you and have a nice day.

what the ****

500. what a rip. My expert rotory meck charged me 500 for the labor on a complete engine rebuild. Its easy to get the injectors. Just take the manifold off and middle intake. The tb can stay with the dynamic chamber. Take the fuel rail off with two small bolts. Those are your primaries. Slide out. Then the secondaries are a little difficlult because of a cluster of lines but you will figure it out .. just get small bags for your bolts and labor where they go. Like upper man. middle man. fuel rail. exc. Mark the vac hoses.

Whoa!

500 for complete rebuild? Now that's a price I could live with..
I was thinking 500 for the job was real high..I was thinking maybe 200 at the most before I got the quote.
Thanks for how-to. Do I need to replace the gaskets on the manifold?

Thanks again for everything...

Hey.

Is that cheap or something. He charged 12 hours. On my reciept/warrenty it says 13b engine, all belts and hoses including oil. Things that werent on the list he says were free was excentric shaft and some greasing of the shifter. A new boot or something. Labor was around 500 but the 13b engine costed 1400. I think I got a lot of new stuff with that like bearings, apex, springs exc. Mabey housings I dont know. All I know is he did an excelent job. Total came out to 2300 but was estimated 19-21. He overshot but thats ok because he wouldnt give me back the car because he was fine tunning it he says. Sort of a perfectionist. Hes in oceanside. On sunset cliffs blv off the 8. Tell me if your ever going down thier. I need to get a tune up.

It's not nearly as easy as it sounds. There is a mess of lines and the DREADED "coolant hose". It isn't hard, but it is certianly a PITA. The hose is a nightmare, no question about it. This is a small hose that goes from the top of the engine to the thermowax on the throttle body. The problem is that you can't get to the hose with the throttle body and dynamic chamber on, but you can't get the dynamic chamer and throttle body off without taking the hose off. It really isn't any fun at all. The easiest way that I've found is to simply remove the thermo wax assembly from the throttle body. The hard part is then getting the screws back in... to put it back on.... Anyway, this is a "do able" job, but just be prepared to take your time and do it right. If you get frustrated walk away and come back later. This job is one that definatly gets easier each time you do it....

Good luck,

also, make sure you clean up all your gasket mating surfaces real well..thet can be stuck on there real bad sometimes...real pain.plus, you have to be carefull not to drop stuff into the intake runners when you clean up the lower intake manifold to upper surface.get a good gasketscraper!

If you've never done much matenience on your car, or you're a newbie mechanic it will be very difficult.

The actual assembly and dissassembly isn't that difficult, but making sure you endup with no vacum leaks and you're injectors are seated correctly can be difficult.

If you do take on this project, maybe sure you have a week or two to dissassemble everything, have the injectors cleaned, and reassemble.

Take your time, label everything, and make sure you replace all the gaskets and gas hoses or else you could end up with a bad situation.

IM me if you have any specific questions.
