NA hood w/TII engine OK for short term driving?

I just got my TII convertible with a Kevin Landers rebuilt engine on the road, and haven't found a TII hood yet. So, I was wondering just how bad it is to run a TII engine with an NA hood? I'm breaking the engine in and driving nicely, but I don't want to mess the turbos up, so if I really need a hood scoop for the intercooler, I'll cut a hole in my hood and bolt on an ebay scoop. If it's not strictly necesssary, especially given that I'm doing my best to drive easy and keep it under 4K rpm, then I'd rather wait a little longer and see if a real TII hood shows up.

Thanks,
Steve

why not just go hoodless?
you can probably sell your hood unless you cut a hole in it.

Yes, I know there's only one turbo - I noticed my typo after I posted. I also did think about going hoodless, but figured the local constabulary would be less than pleased with that. I'm also running a 3" exhaust w/no cats, so I would prefer to not draw any more attention than necessary from the authorities.

Around these parts you can get a ticket for it.

(or at least a lot of warnings )

I drove around for a month without a hood when I did my turbo drivetrain swap in my convertible. Do NOT cut a hole in it, Theres no sense in getting a TII hood when you can throw another $250 on top of the $250 it will cost you for a TII hood and just get a nice fmic with piping. I spent $38 on a brand new 28"x18"x2" volvo intercooler and another $100 on piping.

I don't think it's illegal, I think it just would look a little tacky. I'd probably also have to worry about parking it at the store, and coming back out and finding that some little ******* had decided to pull a handful of wires off just for fun.

And re: cutting a hole in a nice aluminium 'vert hood - I have two hoods, one of which is from a dead vert which will never see the road again. If anyone went to a FMIC and wants to trade their old TII hood for a nice LIGHTWEIGHT aluminum hood, let me know...

That's the best way to go with a NA>Turbo swap IMO. A FMIC will perform much better and you get that stealth factor if you get some black mesh to hide it.

I drove with a TMIC for about 1000 miles after Kevin did the full T2 swap in my vert(700 miles was on the way home from his place) was ***** cold though. Get a FMIC before the summer. DO NOT CUT YOUR HOOD. Please don't listen to the idiots telling you to cut a perfectlly good aluminum vert hood. You won't want a hood scoop after you get a front mount anyway.

One is silver (looks like a MAACO job over the stock red), and the one for the car that was swapped is red.

a TMIC will give the best stealth factor. Most of the little ricer boys are just lookin for a big FMIC to give them a hint of how bad they're gonna lose. Most will just take a hood scoop as a sign of brother hood to them (aka, only there for looks).

As for everyone telling us to get an FMIC, this of course will come sooner or later. Right now we need to get everything else situated/settled in before we really start moddin the car. For now, the TMIC will provide more than adequate cooling for the turbo, and im sure it will be fine for 12psi on the stock turbo as well (when we get to that point after breaking in).

just incase any of you are freakin out wondering who i am, i am srr's son (just so you know im not some crazy guy talking in 1st person about a car thats not in any way related to me)
