NA Flywheel Step
I'm machining my flywheel before I install a new clutch and I'd like to know the flywheel step, or the offset between the pressure plate mounting interface and the friction surface. I've looking in the FSM and I couldn't find it. It's a S5 Non-turbo flywheel.

As far as I know, you resurface a flywheel for two reasons: 1) to ensure a perfectly flat surface for the new clutch disk to sit against, and 2) to maintain the specified distance between the pressure plate mounting surface and the disk friction surface to maintain the appropriate preload on the disk to prevent slippage.
I know the exact measurement right now is about 16.18mm, as measured on a granite surface table with a Mitutoyo digital height gauge. I can very easily machine the flywheel to this spec, but because it is severely worn, the distance is not what it should be.

I appreciate your desire to do this resurfacing exactly by the book, 100% right.
But honestly, just take off an equal amount to maintain your 16.18mm difference and you should be fine. If you think about it, its generally the disk that wears out and not the flywheel itself so I highly doubt the clutch took off a significant amount of material from the flywheel surface.
