n350 ecu vs. n351

hi guys,

was just wondering if a n351 will work in my car that came with a n350 originally. i'm in california and am wondering if this ecu will adversely affect me in any way, since i read that the n350 is for CA cars and the n351 is for everyone else.

thanks

I had put a 350 ECU in my N/A, which is suppposed to be 351, and it ran perfectly fine while it was in. The only difference was that my fog lights didn't go on unless you turned them on (Canadaian standard requires daytime running lights from 1990 after... fog lights stay on ALL the time)

gotcha, i know they're compatable, i was just wondering if maybe there would be emissions differences since the 350 is for CA and 351 is for federal.

thanks

Yes, emissions will be affected, but I don't know if the smog machines will figure that out...

cool thanks guys. i'm going to have to run some alcohol to pass emissions anyways, so i guess it won't matter.

I think he's talking federal vs CA not s4 v s5,.. id think the federal would be slightly better just because the smog reqs are lower.

i hooked up a 351 to my car (cali car with a 350 in it) and it burnt something in the ecu, however i think it was because the ecu may have been wet inside due to where i got it ...the stench was nasty...not the normal electronics burning smell. what's funny is it did this on a drive around the block and i got the car home fine with the ecu putting out a god aweful smell. threw my 350 back in and everything worked fine, minus the burning. just thought i'd share...im sure it had nothing to do with the ecu type.
