Well, I've searched but haven't found anything conclusive.
I'm trying to take out the stock radio so I can replace that POS with something better.
I tried to work with it to figure out how its mounted, but the plastic trim around it seems so fragile.
I don't want to break anything, so I tried looking to see where exactly the scews are that hold the unit in.
This is my first FC so I'm not too familiar with everything yet.

I know my FD needed a special tool to remove the head unit, does the FC?

Any help would be great.

haha.. oh ahem.

mines all busted up and I hate it. Get the install kit that makes cage mount stereos easier so you don't worry about it so much.

 

There's 2 screws inside your ash tray and there's 2 screws behind your air vents. You need to remove the air vent grills to get to them - they just pop off.

If anything does break while you're doing this (i broke mine in half haha) you can order a new one from mazdatrix.com

 

It's been a while, but pop up the plastic around the shifter. Remove the 2 center a/c vents. They just pry out. Remove the ashtry. I believe 2 bolts at top and 2 at bottom, then remove the surround.

 

If you got a S5 surround then it wouldnt crack like the S4's... that is if yours is all cracked up.
