n00b here with a couple of Qs
i do not own an rx7 yet, but.....
one of my co-workers is looking to sell his 1987 rx-7 for $3,000 but i think i can get it for $2,000 - $2,500 (considering i remember him mentioning $2,500 a few months ago). i don't know much about these cars and i was wondering if this seems like a good price?
i have not seen it in person yet, but here is what he told me about it:
1987 rx7
turbo II
80k original miles
new clutch
good tires & brakes
sunroof
very dark gray paint with red interior
he said it's a very clean car & well maintained.
so what do you guys think???
TIA

it's great daily driver if you buy it in good shape. If it's a dying motor, had a bad tranny, bad rear end, bad injectors, bad ecu grounds, bad coolant seals, electrical gremlins, etc., etc. then it won't be a good daily driver. Read the FAQs and search for the thread on HOW TO BUY AN RX7 so you don't get screwed.

I'm not sure if there is a good rotary mechanic near you(check in the regional forums for your area) but, if your friend is willing to let a mechanic inspect the car before you buy, that is the way to go. My friend did that when he bought his TII and he and the seller split the cost of the evaluation. The mechanic can figure out whether the car has any issues of importance and advise you of them at that time. As for TII's being daily drivers, mine is, or was. I drive it couple times a week now, but I used to daily drive it from 92k mi. Now it has 165k and some change, still runs excellent. It has had a lot of work done by myself or my mechanic over the years...but if you maintain it well, and don't do stupid things to it, it will be reliable. If you're concerned about mileage, an NA will get better mileage on average.

Thanks for the great advice fellas, i'll be sure to read that thread, have it checked out properly by a rotary mechanic, and do my homework before the purchase.
