N/A rebuild

I was speaking with several companies today about a rebuild of an N/A.

One company particularly confused me, however - as a sidenote, I have a S4, but am looking to balance it to hit 8k rpms instead of 7k. I've got a S5 UIM+VDI waiting to go on when this happens.

However, this company stated that balancing in and of itself only opened up the capability for an 8k "redline", but I would need supporting mods such as a bridgeport (!!) and fuel mods to be able to utilize it.

Any truth to this? Do I really need to be looking into a S4 bridgeport just to be able to rev it to 8k without worry?

Definitely not. Hell, S5s have a 8000 rpm redline stock. You'll be fine just balancing everything out.

I think the message kind of got a bit mixed up in translation.

He was probably referring to the fact that the stock ports are out of flow at that point. You're going to need porting to keep the airflow going at those speeds.

S5s may have an 8K redline, but look at a dyno graph and watch the power drop off in most cases.

A bridgeport is a bit extreme. Even street porting can have a decent result.

Here's the e-mail I was sent:

you can hit 8,000rpm in 86-88 or 89-91 stock motors both, but if you want the rotating assemblies dynamically balanced the cost is $xxx, but that is not what allows you to hit higher rpms, it will help hold your parts together at higher rpms but in able to get there you would need to port to a bridge port and use a higher volume fuel pump.

My guess is that he's referring to a specific power level.

Though honestly I would never buy an engine from someone who cannot spell, punctuate, capitalize or form coherent sentences.
