N/A LSD questions
N/A LSD questions
i have 2 rx7's. an 88 n/a gxl parts car, and an 89 n/a gxl that i have built. i know that the 88 gxl's came standard w/ limited slip rearends, but i'm not too sure about the 89's. i searched it and saw multiple posts that said the 89 had an lsd, just it was a different kind (one uses fluid or somthing, i cant remember). then someone posted a link to the 89 gxl options and package and stuff but it didnt even have the lsd listed as an option on any of the cars. if someone could clear this up it would be appreciated. i am trying to decide whether to swap the rearends on the 2 cars out. if the 89 isnt lsd i will have to, as this is my weekend drift (learning) car.
thanks

Don't waste your time doing the swap. The 89 GXL came with the Viscous LSD.
FYI: The clutch type LSD in the S4 cars wear out after about 50,000 miles. Doing the swap from viscous to S4 clutch type (that hasn't been rebuilt) would be a downgrade. Although the clutch type does seem to take more abuse.

wow, this is misinformation central.
All your LSD questions can be answered by reading the sticky: What did my FC come with?
No S5 NA's, with the exception of the GTUs, came with LSD.
I am also of the opinion that a rebuilt clutch-type diff from the S4 models is superior to the viscous fluid-type found in the S5's, provided that the clutch-type diff is rebuilt to the appropriate spec. If you're new to the diff game, then just rebuild the diff back to stock, but you should do the swtich from S5 to S4 if you're financially able to do so.

Your 89 GXL does not.
You have all the parts to make the swap.
Good luck.
