N/A hunting for idle

Anyone have a problem where their idle blips 200 RPM or so every couple of seconds? Mine has started doing that after it's warmed up.

Interestingly, if I crank up the vent fan (not on A/C, just vent), it seems to smooth out the idle.

Anyone else? Possible causes/solutions?

Hunting idle can be caused by an out of spec TPS. Get that set correctly and then set the idle speed to 750. See if that cures your symptoms. Hunting idle threads have been posted many times before. Learn how to use the search function.

I was able to smooth out the idle by tinkering with the fast idle adjusting screw...no more blips, but my idle is about 1200 RPM. Don't know if that will cause any other problems, but at least it's a constant RPM now.

I guess I'll have to look at the TPS next, as you suggest.

no not the fast idle screw... set that back to stock. Only reason it idles fine now is because its off the idle circuit. Go the the general maintanance section of the FSM and set the idle or TPS first, and the A/F screw and don't forget to jump the initial set coupler. hunting idle is 9/10 a TPS and idle screw problem.

Thanks, Chris...went back and reset the fast idle screw, then found the 'air adjust screw' referred to in the FSM...fiddled with that after the car warmed up, and was able to get the idle back down to the 750 - 800 RPM range. Plus, no more blips.

Took it out for a short spin, and it seems fine now...no more hunting, no more idling fast.
