Smile N/A 13b Bridgeport Idea

Okay so I've been thinking about what way I want to go about building an engine.
I want to build something strong and quick and i don't really wana go turbocharged. So I thought up a non turbocharged bridgeported engine. Now I have done some reading on this subject but im still kinda lost in the dark. All i know really is that 6port housings wont work.

What i would like to know is which parts would it take to make this work and still make some impressive numbers. all I know is that I want a brideported N/A motor and since its N/A I might as well use carbon apex seals.
the car is an 89 N/A.

I would really like to see this idea happen so i would really appreciate the info. and please no flaming.... lol

you are gonna need a stand alone....and maybe someone in your trunk who pushes your car cause you will have NO low end torque

Well, It's gonna take a whole shitload of stuff to do it right.
First, its probably a good idea to get 4-port housings, although it can be done with 6-port ones.
From here, you have a choice: Stay fuel injected, or go carb?
If you stay fuel injected you will need a standalone ECU for sure, and you will need ITB's to really see the power potential from the port job.
If you go carb, you just need a proper carb setup. Neither of these will be terribly streetable.

Thus you come to the problem with NA bridgeports - by the time you do it right, you've spent more money that it would take to have a streetported turbo engine that makes the same power, has potential for much more, and is far more streetable.

^^^^^^Yup...... save your self a lot of time and money and do what you really dont wana do. Buy a s5 turbo engine (jdm styles) from a reliable vendor like japan2la or atkins.

get 4 port turbo irons,do a full bridgeport, run a webber carb intake setup, first gen dizzy and 2 msd boxes, this is the cheap way to get 200 plus hp in NA form, kinda hard to drive in stop and go traffic but you get use to it.

i have seen (mazdatrix.com) that you carbon apex seals are only really useful for higher rpm's as in racing etc.

could be wrong if so sorry in advance

Carbon are not the ticket, ceramics are the way to go in an high RPM N/A application i.e. Ianetti's These were the seal of choice for the ALMS 3-rotor effort when it ran and had no issues.

Well, I've got a 1/2 bridgeport 6-port engine in my street car right now. It's an s5 with the stock intake manifold. The 6 port sleeves are removed, the VDI valve is always open, and it's running atkins steel apex seals, and I'm running it all with a haltech e11v2. It actually runs really good, with solid bottom end torque, much more than the stock motor had, and it pulls to 9,000 rpm very solidly, but because it's a half bridge, it falls off quite abruptly at about 9,200 rpm, but that may also be the intake, which I'm hoping to replace with a weber ITB setup. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to get the motor balanced and lightend when I built it, so I just keep the rev limiter at 9k. Oh, and it gets about 16mpg in the city and 18 on the highway, but that's with a crappy street tune done by yours truly, so there's room for improvement.

All in all, yes it can be done, but the carbon seals won't seal very well at lower revs, and therefore will give you less torque.

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot, all the porting and the templates were made in my garage, since as far as I know, nobody offers a bridgeport 6-port template, so I just started with a pineapple racing large streetport template and elaborated with some lexan and a sharpie
