Mystery shut off

I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose a problem I have been having with my 88 t2? I can be driving down a residential street or the highway when my car will just die. I pull to the shoulder and try to start but there is nothing, no cranking of starter etc. just click click of the ignition. I usually can wait 5-10 minutes and then it will start normally. This problem may not occur again for a month or so. It just happens sporadically when you least expect it. Also sometimes when I attempt to start it the same happens just click click, wait a few minutes then try again till the starter will engage. Don't know if it could be related to the first scenario. Any help will be appreciated to keep repair shop bills to a minimum. Thanks

I had the same problem for while, I had bad solder joints at my computer using my SAFC. Resoldered it and no more problem.

my 88 tII has a similar problem, now its to the point where it will crank fine, run for exactly 5 seconds, then die. happens the same way, every time. i havent had the free time to look into it, but about a year ago it had a loose intake ground (so i was told by the guy that fixed it, original owner of the car) that would cause it to die at random times.

electrical problems are so annoying.

^ anooying electrical problems... yeah the RX7 is plagued by them. but they are fixable...

anyone have some insight on what the problem sould be?

i have had the same issue once and i also have a SAFC soldered onto my ECU leads... i'm wondering if one of my joints is bad?

though there may be other issues.

Thanks for the input guys. The first mechanic I talked to said it sounded like wiring. I started to sweat thinking of all that $60/ hour searching for the prob. Unfortunately there are no rx7 experts in my neck of the woods. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet.
