That's the injector spacer. Goes between the primary fuel rail mounting flange and the center iron. Without it, the primary fuel rail will not fit over the injectors. And if it gets forced, it will crush down on the tops.

I'm amazed you were able to make it fit. Must have taken effort.

This is why you need to have the factory service/Haynes manual near when you do any work on the car in an unfamiliar area.

lol, not using it, the injectors will not be seated into the rail properly. Can we say engine bay fire?

It also helps prevent the engine heat from traveling up the injector rail

A couple of things to keep in mind when working on most cars (any many other things).

1) When disassembling anything try to keep track of what parts were removed and their orientation.

2) Most cars don't have a lot of "extra" parts. If you're not absolutely sure what the part does and how it relates to other subsystems, you may want to put it back during reassembly.

I ended up not putting the spacer back in. I don't smell gas at this time and the fuel rail bolted right down on top of the fuel injectors without too much of a fuss. I started the car up and it seemed to run ok. ended up actually taking the fuel rail back off due to something but never even knew the spacer was there.

now that I know it belongs there though I might end up trying to put that little bugger back in. hell it only takes about an hour to take it apart and put it back together again

it's not that I thought it was extra or anything like that either. just didn't see it sitting there at first. I ended up pulling the fuel rail off cause the pulsation damper went bad. had a new fuel rail to put in instead. well that little bugger must of been stuck to the old fuel rail as I found it on top of my car AFTER I put everything back together

it looked fine to me. I didn't have to force anything. it fit nice and neat.
heck I didn't even see one when I pulled the old fuel rail off the convert in the car graveyard.
but then again both days it was cold. I was freezing. wanted to get stuff done. plus my car has been down for the last year and I started it up fo the first time yesterday since about 10 months ago so I was a little happy to start it up.

damn friend though put so much god damn oil in the vacuum line to help her start up it's gonna smoke like a b itch....
