Mysterious hole in downpipe and mysterious ground

I was crawling around under my 87 TII today and noticed this little hole in the downpipe.

This is on the bottom side of the downpipe, right after the turbo. The weird thing is, I went to take a look at the downpipe off of my parts car, and it doesn't have this hole at all.

I can stick a paper clip all the way into it, so it's obviously leaking exhaust. And it's not threaded from what I can tell. Does anybody else have this hole or something that looks similar?

Also while crawling around under the car, I found a ground that I forgot to connect when putting the engine back in the car.

This is near the starter. Does anybody know where this ground was originally connected? And what is it's purpose?

Thanks!

The hole is just a rust hole and the ground is normally attached to the one of the bolts that hold the slave cylinder on, I forget what exactly it is for...

The hole looks like a bung was once attached and a probe of some sort inserted in the exhaust.
Just a guess.

The "ground" is actually a condensor for the oil pressure gauge circuit and originally did go on one of the slave cylinder mounting bolts although any good ground point would work as well.

Ya.I agree with Clokker.you can obviously see where someone has attempted to weld a Piece to hold the EGT sender's bung onto the pipe. They just didn't bother to insert the Bung on Correctly.
Hook the black condenser Thingie(The black hash piece with Eyelet) to a slave cylinderr bolt.Unscrew the Bolt closest to the Drivers side.Place it on,and put the bolt back in.Done.

Probably the hole for a EGT sensor. They make one that uses a hole that size and the sensor is held in place with a common band clamp. Makes sense to me. I've seen 'em and used 'em.

Thanks guys! The hole is now welded shut and the condenser is where it should be.
