My warning lights don't light up at start, thoughts?
Hi everybody!
I don't usually post here, I'm mostly lurking, searching and get what I need that way.
However this problem has me a bit stumped.
Usually when you turn the ignition to ON but not start the car all the warning-lights should light up and then go out when you start the car, right? Well, the only light doing this is the ABS-light (it stays on for 2 seconds then turns off, no need to start the car). All the other warning-lights stay shut off, but I know that all of them works (well the ones I have triggered, low coolant + buzzer, brake, low washer-fluid, door ajar).
This makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the ECU but I cant figure out why it does that but still fill their function. They are going to check this at the inspection (that's my fear that they fail me for this) so I need to get it fixed somehow.
Anyone ever experienced a similar problem or have any clue where to start? The car is a eu-spec TII S5 -90 with manual transmission and just under 100k km on the odometer.
Thanks in advance,
~- Anton

Hei Anton,
Have you tried to solder the CPU near the kick-panel ?
Look for "idiot lights" on this site. I had similar problem and I soldered some contacts in the CPU and the problem was easily solved.

^ I think you have it backwards.
The idiot lights will stay on if it's not plugged in.
If I remember right the Idiot lights are on a circuit which turns lights on at the loss of 12v to it.
That's why when the engine/alternator conk out the lights all come on.
So I would think that your idiot light wire is seeing 12v constantly now instead of only when the alternator is running

i speak from experience, my S4 TII's idiot lights would not come on with key turned/engine off until i found that the alt connector was not connected. After plugging it back in, the idiot lights would come on like their supposed to.
it could be just an unplugged/loose alt connector, i would check that first

I'm gonna check my idiotlights panel and the ecu and resolder them, atleast give it away to someone who knows what they are doing, I can solder cables together but soldering on a circuitboard makes me nervous. I will also check the cables to/from the alternator as well. Thanks guys, if you have more ideas on the problem feel free to post

Update: after a tip I grounded the white/black wire going from the alternator and turned the key, voila, lights works, so the problem is my alternator not giving ground for those 3 seconds or however long its supposed to do it. Any know of this problem and how to fix the alternator? The alternator works since the car runs good and the battery gets charged.
