My turbo rattles!

Something inside my turbo rattles when it's cold.
The rattle goes away at mid to high RPM(under boost) and then once it warms up it gets less or sometimes stops rattling altogether.

My boost stays up I feel no power loss it just is annoying when I'm going next to a barrier or something and hearing it rattle.

It sounds kind of like if you took a quarter and dropped it in the exhaust pipe and shook it.

Yeah, you need to tighten your turbo to manifold bolts, or your manifold to "block" bolts. You'lll likely find that they're really loose.

Some new 'crush' washers would probably help.

but if they were that lose you would have a hell of a exhaust leak maybe its the flap inside the manifold that helps the turbo spool up

All the bolts are tight. No heat sheild. It sounds like it's coming from inside.
I know the only way to really know is to take it off but, I don't want to!
But the twinscroll flapper what would make it start rattling?
the linkage is stilll attached...

if you have a tubular steel manifold it is normal resonance of the exhaust pulses making a tinning noise on the metal. mine does it as well, i live with it.

Like I said, it's not robbing me of any power or about ready to fall off.
It's just alittle annoying.

Hmmm... How long has it been doing it? Has it gotten steadily worse/louder?

Can you "feel" it at all? Or is it simply a noise...

Hasn't got worse. I just noticed it one day. And as far as I can tell it's just noise.

They could still be loose and form a seal lol. I've had plenty of housing bolts come completley out and have the piece come off only with a hammer lol.
