Talking My turbo project w/ pics

About two weeks ago I discovered for the first time that my car had an exhaust leak, more than likley ive had it since day one but I never knew about because the car never smoked or anything like. While removing the ps/ac/emissions/mop I dumped a little premix down the intake runners before I started it (she had been sitting for a few months) and I see puffs of smoke coming out right by the turbo manifold. Sooo long story short I dropped the turbo and now im doing all the porting I can before the gasket gets here from mazdatrix, and I figured what better way to track my progress than to start a thread!

Heres the cause of all my troubles, these gaskets are cherry I promise

First things first I removed the twin scroll actuator and arm assembly from the manifold/turbo, and ported the crap out of the turbine inlet.

This shot gives you a bit of a better angle to see how deep I went with the port, I used a die grinder to take down the burs on the larger of the two stock ports and used that side as a template to port the small side.

One last shot of my porting job. Not to bad considering its really only the second time ive done any porting, first time being my throttle body.

Next up, take care of that tiny little stock wastegate. I didnt have any honda valves laying around, but I did happen to have a buddy with a box filled with 7mgte parts (late 80's turbo supra). While the valves were a hair to big to fit in the exhaust housing one of the spacers in the stock lifters was just the right size.

We cut the valve stem off the supra valve and welded it to one of the lifter spacers. Heres a few shots of how it turned out and the fitment in the housing.

With any luck I will finish the new wastegate flapper tommorrow afternoon and then port the crap out of that. More pics to come, stay tuned

Hah thanks, also gives me a chance to reply to my own thread with a question. What do you guys think about the compressor wheel? It looks pretty rough but there is VERY little shaft play and the crappy cone filter is still in good condition, meaning no holes or filter material missing so Im assuming its been like this since before I put the cone filter on some 2.5 years ago. Wow I somehow made that all into one sentence.
