Is my TII slow or what?

kay a few days ago i got beat by an old accord on the way to school. no big deal, my launch was terrible. but today on the way home my friend (FORD TAURUS) and i took off down keystone and he was outrunning me. dont say 'learn to drive' because while you're probably right, thats not the reason i got walked by an econoford. should TII's be this slow? or is there something wrong with mine? its stock btw for now

some taurus are V8... I'm pretty sure your T2 needs a tune up if you haven't done that before.

My brother-in-law's Taurus will probably take my NA 88 Vert. But I would hope the TII would do better. Maybe I'll try to line them up tonight!

Do you have any mods on your TII?

That or the compression is low.

I think alot of it IS to do with driver. If you go into everyrace thinking your faster or are a shitty driver, you'll loose !

Just because it is a TII doesn't mean its going to be fast. Strong running TII's are fast !

it was a V6...would a tuneup make that much of a difference? he wasnt pulling away from next to me or anything, he was in front of me already and he was getting visibly farther away

Was it a taurus SHO, and was it a 5 speed? SHO's are pretty badass cars. Should be a very close race with a stock T2 if they are both stock and the SHO is a 5speed.

Driving a turbo'd car well takes some talent.. It's not just stomp on the gas and go, it has a lot to do with reading the engine and knowing when to shift. I used to beat all kinds of cars that I shouldn't have with my old ranger (4cyl) just because I knew my truck better then the guy next to me knew his car. Like in Autocrossing, sometimes I get better times then the corvettes and porches because I know my car.....

What year was the Taurus? The newer ones have some pretty decent power and could take an older stock TII.
Edit: its not an SHO, either. Those were either straight-6 or V-8.

Not all Taurus's are slow dude, if it was an SHO you only have like a 20-30 HP advantage, but the SHO has more torque easily. I suggest taking him on the corners next time.

no you see thats just the thing...it was an SE. if i got stomped by an SHO i wouldnt feel that bad. imean im no drag racer, but im pretty sure that shifting at 6.5k against a taurus shouldnt lose. and hell, i wish one of my friends would take a challenge in the twisties.

SHO Taurus's did not come with straight-6s, they're a Yamaha 3.0-3.2L DOHC 24v V-6..

as for the TurboII losing to a Taurus, that's definately telling you something.. either the car is running very poorly, or there's some sad driving going on.

turboII's aren't the fastest cars out there. yes, I reccomend a compresison check. if that's fine and you want to get faster, look foward to some bolt on upgrades.

I still think that either you're a bad driver or your car needs a hug (tune up). Getting it to stock running condition would fair you the best chance.

Yea i agree, check your compression and check your turbo and make sure the turbine is not damage or anything or the pipping. Also a tune would help. Also dyno it to make sure you are getting the correct amount of power.

Are you coming to Deal's gap this year? As far as twistie's go, I hear that it's pretty much the ultimate.

The last time a friend tried to race me in the twisties he ended up spinning 360 degrees thru a ditch. I just stick to autocross for that now, anything else is just too dangerous for the streets.

****, i was afraid of that. It was expected though. Ill do a compression check tomorrow at school. Oh well, im ordering an S5 JDM motor this summer. i will have my revenge!

and if i can time off and get out to the gap i will definately be there.

EDIT: ill try to get it dyno'ed sometime this weekend...imean it feels plenty fast, but that may be because my last car was an AE86. /shrug

There is no power difference between USDM and a JDM one. because the US RX-7 are imported from japan if u havent notice, just look inside the engine bay.

im aware, but the simple fact is that JDM 13BT's are abundant and cheap enough to constitute rebuilding it as soon as i get it

and yeah when is deals gap? still april 8-10?

So you're replacing one engine with another that doesn't bolt in (wiring wise) and has a possibility and NOT even running.

What the heck dude?

Rebuild your current one and get power AND reliability.

It'll cost that engine $900 to your door and another $900 or more to rebuild.

Rebuilding your current one is just $900 bucks or more .

I can't see your logic.

rebuilding it will cost big bucks, the housings and such i guarentee are not reuseable, its got 150k on the clock and the previous owner beat the **** out of it. i talked prices at a local shop and it would be cheaper to do a reman, but since i make 8 bucks an hour, ill take the S5 JDM one. and i know its a bitch and a half to wire, but i know my limitations, ill get help with that.

edit: plus ill be getting 17+ horsepower
