fired up my rebuild today and went for a drive, drove it all day to break it in (almost 80 miles). the temp gauge is registering almost to the H. but there was no boiling water, no signs of overheating, so wtf is up. it makes me nervous looking at it not knowing if its accurate.
any help greatly appreciated, thanks

 

get yourself an aftermarket gauge and tap anywhere thats after the thermostat

You NEED an aftermarket water temp gauge...period.

can a normal aftermarket temp guage sensor screw into the stock temp location...or does the ecu use the reading for fuel mixture and wahtnot?

 

No to both questions.

 

I am not driving it on the H, it mearly thinks its hot for some reason. even in the morning when the car has been sitting all night. in the morning the temp gauge even rises to H before I even crank it over, and stays in the same place the whole time. I put 80 miles on the rebuild yesterday and there were absolutly no signs of overheating. but whatever. I will get an aftermarket one I guess. there has gotta be so electrical screwed up some where. could it be maybe my temp sensor is bad? also could that couse bad gas mileage
