bump still have problem

i broke a couple allen screws trying to get this pin(9922-20-525) out
i tried sticking a small needle and putting my finger behind the pin area(17-461A), for some reason i was poking my finger.. meaning nothing was there really, that there was no pin(9922-20-525)?
anyways if the pin(9922-20-525) is not there i assume, how come i can't take the whole shifter assembly(17-470) out?

im really getting frustrated with this thing..
your help is appreciated

not one bit. you don't even notice if you do a lot of city driving.

most people like to force the shifter in gear; which isn't correct way of shifting for daily driving. if you just push in the direction of the gear desired; it just slides right in with no problems.

doesn't bother me but the sloppy shifter does annoy me... i just wonder if i did choose to fix the return spring how long they last, seems 99% of the manual gear boxes out there all have this problem.

I know this is an old thread, but I need to replace the return spring to. I'm not sure how to get the pin out of the shifter block to remove the block to be able to put the new spring in place. Anyone ever do this?

this is fairly easy once the tranny is out, just remove both of the covers on the bottom and side of the shifter housing, put the shifter in neutral and then remove the shifter, get a properly sized punch and then with your finger (or a friends finger) push the shifter block to the left (looking from the rear of the tranny) as far as it will go, then tap the pin out, there is just enough room back there to get the pin out. then the shift block will slide right off of the shaft, replace the spring and put it all back together.

That did the trick. Once I removed the cover for the Select Lock, it gave the pin the extra room it needed. I just hope I didn't loose anything when I took the Select Lock spindle out. I did find a ball bearing and a long spring. I just hope there weren't any other parts (like a small spring) that flow away. Looking at the microfiche, I think I have everything. Now I'm just waiting for Mazda to get the new select spring in. I'll also have a get a new pin but I can get that at Fastenal.
