My shifter wont spring back in neutral
you know how any shifter springs back left and right when you put it in neutral
well my shifter will spring back from the right, but when i shift it left like i put it in first gear it won't spring back in neutral from left alot of people are telling me the spring is broken, i went to mazda today and had a hard time trying to find it, before i go and purchase i would like other opinions here's a pic of what I think the spring is 17-4650 http://www.nsxprime.com/photopost/up...2/problema.jpg basically it is one coil like spring and one of the pins that connected to it broke, this is what i think thanks, your help is appreciated Greg |
Yes, thats the spring u have most likely broken/missing
U will have to drop tranny to replace it. |

Yes it is the only spring.
I have the same problem and my tranny is already out too. Has anybody ever done this? What’s the easiest way to replace the spring?? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
with tranny out, u have remove side cover 17-486A, press out pin 9922-20-525 and pull whole rear part of tranny from the rest
its pretty obvious from picture and from looking at tranny....once pin is pressed out, its all breeze |
yay i ordered the spring today
|
I have the same exact problem. I actually kinda like it..it makes me feel all special and stuff. Pfffttt...shifter springs r for wussies!!! :)
|
... this isn't normal behavior? Huh. Neither of my stickshift cars have the left centering spring.
Took a friend's TII for a spin and it had both centering springs. I thought it was just a TII tranny thing. -=Russ=- |
Mine centers from the right, but not from the left. Centering doesn't really affect how I shift, I don't think.

i still having a problem pressing that pin out, do i need to use a sledge hammer or something?
|
this is the same problem i have
guess i gotta wait also till it's time to replace the transmission |
sometimes mine doesnt spring back from the right
|
yea.. for some reason it won't want to come out, i put a little allen screw in the pin hole and use a hammer to bang it out.. still no luck
|
bump
|
anyone else having this problem?
|
Its actually better without the spring, but I autoX. Its better to have no resistance from 1st-3rd gear.
|
Mine used to spring back to neutral position but it doesn't anymore after I installed short shifter. So I thought shifter becomes heavier than the spring can handle....

The centering springs are ..477 & ..483 on that picture.
Here is a different picture. http://208.62.166.66:82/guest/Shop_M...ft springs.JPG |

I've got the same problem as well and posted the following thread :
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...eutral+problem However, I got very different responses about what causes this. I guess I'll live with it for now. :) |
