My shifter wont spring back in neutral

you know how any shifter springs back left and right when you put it in neutral

well my shifter will spring back from the right, but when i shift it left like i put it in first gear
it won't spring back in neutral from left

alot of people are telling me the spring is broken, i went to mazda today and had a hard time trying to find it, before i go and purchase i would like other opinions
here's a pic of what I think the spring is 17-4650

basically it is one coil like spring and one of the pins that connected to it broke, this is what i think

thanks, your help is appreciated
Greg

with tranny out, u have remove side cover 17-486A, press out pin 9922-20-525 and pull whole rear part of tranny from the rest

its pretty obvious from picture and from looking at tranny....once pin is pressed out, its all breeze

... this isn't normal behavior? Huh. Neither of my stickshift cars have the left centering spring.

Took a friend's TII for a spin and it had both centering springs. I thought it was just a TII tranny thing.

Mine centers from the right, but not from the left. Centering doesn't really affect how I shift, I don't think.

Its actually better without the spring, but I autoX. Its better to have no resistance from 1st-3rd gear.

Mine used to spring back to neutral position but it doesn't anymore after I installed short shifter. So I thought shifter becomes heavier than the spring can handle....

neutral problems

I've got the same problem as well and posted the following thread :
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...eutral+problem

However, I got very different responses about what causes this. I guess I'll live with it for now.
