My shift up light comes on in 5th gear.

Any ideas? I tried looking at the FAQ pages and other web sites but 1 - I cannot get into the resources page and 2 - no other sites have anything useful.

Seems as if there is a 5th gear switch on the tranny somewhere as indicated in my service manual.

Whats the quick fis for this??

fix the switch

At the switch on the tranny, check to see that the black wire is resting at ground, and the Black/Blue wire only has ground when the car is in 5th.

you still want to fix the switch. you'll get better gas millage in 5th while it's working.

Really?

What does it do to change gas mileage? I don't see why the ecu would care what gear the car is in for tuning purposes.

Thanks,

Doesn't make too much sense to me either, but mine's doing the same thing. Also, my speedo isn't working and I believe i've gotta drop the tranny to fix the gear in the tranny that drives the gear on the cable. Inspection's coming up too, so I'm hoping they can "overlook" that

yep it actually does. It even cares about if the car is in neutral or not

Yeah, I know about the neautral switch and it's functions... but I was un-aware of any mixture changes associated with the 5th gear switch. It was my understanding that it was ONLY to keep the 5th gear light from coming on. I have confirmed that the car does go into closed loop still in 5th gear. What exactly does it change when in 5th? Just leans out the mixture more?

Thanks,

1986-1988 Zenki FC's don't care.
The 1989-1991 Kouki FC's have an input when the transmission is in 5th gear/reverse; so the ECU does know on the later cars.

Where is this switch/plug? I hate this service manual. i can never find anything. Do I get at the plug by going under the car or doing it from inside???

I don't have one thank god. it would always be on but canadian models might be different. I don't have those dam auto seatbelts either

and ya it leans it out for 5th gear crusing. I can see it on my A/F gauge. most cars do.
