My rx7 zapped me!

Well I had my car running and I wanted to do a test to see why my car was cutting out at 5k rpm so unplugged the trailing spark plug from the rear rotor, and im holding it for about 2 seconds thinking , cool its going click click click from the spark going to it then BAM felt like it ripped my thumb nail right off lol, I ran to the ignition to turn the car off. Heheh I just leave those cables alone when my car is running now.

the rx-7 coils pack a wallup, man they hurt. Ive been hit a few times. I got myself good once when i pulled an un-insulated plug wire off a running 1275cc on a bugeye sprite. Luckily point ignition doesnt hurt much.

Ha! That happened to me a little while ago. It turned out I had a crack in one of the rubber boots on the coil end of a leading plug lead, and you could hear it arcing on the bonnet! One night I was showing this to a mate. With the hood up and the engine running, I pointed at the boot and said, “I think it’s this one.” Just as I said it a huge blue spark leapt the one inch from the boot to my finger! Hurt like hell and scared the crap outta me! My mate laughed his *** off...

I have never had much luck avoiding the zaps of the coil. Seems everytime I get near them I get zapped, we had our plug wires off one day while we were testing compression, forgot to pull the EGI or the cas and ZAP, nailed me on the palm because my hand was resting on the coils for support, ugh did that hurt!

I got zaped once by my friends car with a haltech. I learned the hard way that for some reason the haltech fires the plugs when you just turn the key from off to on LOL... I was holding on of the wires when I told him to turn the key on. I wasn't expecting that!. and I don't know why it does. I didn't feel much though it must not fire full at that point.

Heh. I haven't done that yet but I probably will. The worst time I shocked myself is when I went to unplug a light I was using to work on the car and I didn't know that the boot thing was half gone. When I picked it up BAM!!! I was face down on the ground and couldn't move or yell for help for like 5 minutes. My dad came out wondering what the hell the bang was and why the braker for half the house tripped. Well hell guys, I guess I'm lucky, It should have killed me. Nothing but a small electrical burn on my hand though.

So we get finished swapping the 383ci small block chevy into my friend's car... fully built- compression, big cam, quality aftermarket heads, etc.- and an MSD billet distributor, burly MSD-7AL ignition and Pro-Power coil. We were pretty proud of this motor- it was serious hardware for a couple of (young and stupid) 17 year olds. At any rate, MSD's sometimes need a diode in the activation wire or they will let the car continue running after the system is swtiched off. This one had that problem. I, in my infinite brilliance, figured I'd just pull the coil lead to kill the motor.
After I picked myself up off the ground 10 feet away, I was pleased to note that the engine had, in fact, ceased running. The sensation in my arm came back about 30 minutes later.
