BTW - if your exhaust or intake is plugged/old - that's probably 90% of the problem. Upgrade to the FULL!!! free flowing exhaust (especially adding a downpipe/no pre-cat) will help drastically:

SUCCESS!!

well...i got my done. i put in the plugs and wires. i also found that the timing was off. BY 10 DEGREES!!! i can definetly notice a difference. it grabs rpms much quicker and i can feel better power at about 4000 rpms. now i just need to figure out what is next!!! i want to get down into the 14's and smoke this integra...hes been talkin alot of crap

My 91 NA with a 1/4 of gas (-/+) hit the scale at heffty 2880 lbs without driver. The latest GSR weight 2667 lbs, and you mention the the earlier ones where lighter. 400LBS is probably and over statement, but based on these numbers there is a 213LBS difference, 10% higers drivetrain loss, and 10HP less from the factory, they sure have the upperhand when it comes to racing..............
I can only speak from personal experience. I've owned and modified both. HP gains an open exhaust on GSR's aren't that high. With your basic bolt-on mod's I would say a well running NA FC could more than do the job against a GSR considering how often I did. Right now, on the other hand, my FC isn't exactly running like it used to. I know plenty of GSR guys so I'll have to get back to you when my car's not running like ***. This guy's saying my FC weighs in around 2700lbs ('bout the same as a GSR):
