Unhappy my rx7 vs hondas = me lose???? what is wrong

ok...i have a 89 gxl. i have headers, and a racing beat exaust, a bonez intake and a street port. i ran today with a few cars. 1) 91 acura integra....he says he runs a high 14 at the track he has about 180hp...and he smokes me. 2) i almost lost to a 91 civic hatch...only about 130hp. he was right on my bumper but i was only ahead cause i launched better.

and to top it off, i was door to door with an oldsmobile intrigue!?!?!?!

what is wrong??? should my car be running with these? i would think that i should be walking all over civics...i should have 160hp stock right? and people have told me about 200hp with what i have done? did i miss something... HELP!!!

Get a 1/4 mile run on a timed track and post your split times. Maybe see if you can hook up with some one from the forum that lives near you to take a look at how you drive.

No shame lossing to a 14 sec car, even if it is a honda

Or the "MTV real life" honda - revs to 9000rpms and "grinds" it into gear.

That's cheating if you don't use the clutch !!!!

Are your 6-ports and VDI working?

If you have exhaust and streetport... then you should be running low 15's/high 14's right with that acura. Something is fucked here.

Stock is 16.0 (assuming you have everything running corectly). full exhaust will be like mid 15's. And a streetport is hella power

Not all Hondas are slow, especially the integra. Those civic hatches are pretty light, and with some mods they can be pretty fast. Plus mods for Hondas are everywhere since everyone and their brother has one.I do think that with your mods you shouldve taken it though. Maybe get a compression test , time for a tune-up?

*edit* By the way you only have 1 header

I see you have been misguided by the 14sec FC's people, do we have any here .

Don't assume you have a 14 sec car untill you have a time slip. Yes your car HAD 160hp AT the FLYWHEEL when NEW. You must make sure that your 6ports and VDI are working properly, if not that is it.

You should be able to "keep up" with a GSR with I/H/E, more than that and you are toast. Remember they don't have a restrictive AFM, their driveline (?) loss is about 10% lower than ours, and they weight anywhere from 200-400 LBS less than our FC's.

You should be beating the hell out of all Honda Civics (except for the 99-01 SI), and CRX, if any of these have a "Frankeinstein" engine you are toast.

Not with a normal street port, specially on a 6 port block.

Meh... but you should NEVER lose to a CiBIc unless he's got a engine transplant or (or so I've HEARD) a new Si.

I've beaten a GS-R with I/H/E before.... but only by like 1/2-3/4 of a carlenght (his front bumber was at my passenger door).

EXACTLY, and once you race the Civic coupe SI, the outcome will be very similar

Wait, so you're telling me the Civic Si is just as fast as a Integra GS-R Vtec WITH intake, exhaust, and headers?

So the econobox of honda is faster than it's "sports coupe?" (well, the "sports coupe" they had before the RSX-S of course)

You should beat a GS-R if you are running right

Platinum plugs won't do ****, maybe just last longer. The 10mm wires better be "ultra" brand (Racing Beat) or magnecor or MSD.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, get your 6-ports and VDI running perfectly.

They are about the same with equal mods, or stock!

do you still have your cats on?

I was wondering - do you still have your cats? I replaced my cats with a rb presilencer back in the day, and it totally made a different (IMO). As a matter of fact my 87 n/a with just intake, header, exhaust + presilencer beat (small margin) a crx with a b16 (supposedly j-spec) only to name one. Everyone we raced was like "damn that car is fast, is it turbo?", and we said no - their jaws dropped.

Easily a matter of drivers, a CRX with a Dohc 1.6 WILL do 14.9 at least, haven't seen a FC with a the stock AFM doing that.........

200-400 LBS less than our FC's
Unless you have 200+lbs of audio equipment, a GSR does not weigh that much less than an FC (unless your talking about the 2g GSR's which I never see).

When my FC was running right with an intake, straight pipe, and dynomax mufflers, I beat every GSR with similar mods and would really start to pull past a car-length at the end of 3rd gear. Note that I said "running right". Most 12+ year old cars aren't exactly running right.

My 91 NA with a 1/4 of gas (-/+) hit the scale at heffty 2880 lbs without driver. The latest GSR weight 2667 lbs, and you mention the the earlier ones where lighter. 400LBS is probably and over statement, but based on these numbers there is a 213LBS difference, 10% higers drivetrain loss, and 10HP less from the factory, they sure have the upperhand when it comes to racing..............

I really like the looks of the newer integras. The only thing that prevents me from getting one is the FWD. I know they can still handle very well even with the FWD, but its just not as fun.
