My RX7 so far, can't complain for free.

So my step sister got this car and the brakes where shot and she didn't want to pay to get them fixed and it sat for almost a year. I said I would take it and my mother baught it for my girl's birthday for 200$ and gave it to us.

Now my Monte blew a flywheel due to my stupidity of not tightening the starts down enough, so I am now on this car for now.

As for now I am planning on:
~> A nice metallic black paint (the type that gives it a wet look) with a dark blue lining at the bottom maybe 3" from bottom up.
~> Spray bay the engine and shine it up a little.
~> Have the seats re-upohlstered (sp?) a black microfiber with leather siding (where the cracked parts are right now)
~> New black interior (but keeping the red dash and panels, I sort of like the red on black look as long as the red isn't uber bright)
~> Chrome guage cover w/ black on blue guages
~> Installing a stereo (I just need the speakers atm)
~> Tinting the windows (35% visability because Its all I can legally goto)
~> Change tranny fluid

What I have done:
~> New speedo cable (that doesn't seem to work entireally right
~> New brakes (1 new calipur)
~> A washing (which just braught out the couple dents and crappy scratches lol)
~> New fuel filter
~> Oil change
~> Brake fluid change
~> New rear drivers side shock (hard to find that works with the damn AAS)

Suggestion on what I should do with the car elsewise? It's an 87 GXL w/ a 13b engine

Front view: paint looks ok but needs new sap annialated it and the Rejection sticker was there when I got it just been too lazy to take it in since I fixed brakes.

Rear view: The bumper sticker needs to go something fierce and needs a new exauhst(sp)

Inside view: Not that bad thea seat is a little messed and its dirty :-\

Engine view: Needs a good cleaning and polish but other than that its been only the speedo problem.

I would but it's going to be my girls car till she gets the money up to buy a newer car (I hate new cars I told her she could either have the monte or the rx7 and I would customize it, she wants the rx7 because the monte is too big). I don't want too much power or manual till it's back in my possesion lol she will destroy it.

It had 65k miles on it. My step sis only drove it a little then let it sat, and the owner before let it sit for a long time too. I assume it was taken really good care of, I washed the dash today but that was it. It wasn't even really that dirty I just had the armorall cloths in the monte lol

The car looks good in the pictures. I think the above is pretty much a waste of money. The seats could maybe use covers or a little work though.

I think these items are good, and you may also want to change the coolant and install a new Mazda brand thermostat if you aren't sure about the age of the current thermostat. Also, you may want to check the weather stripping piece at the bottom of the side windows, as this tends to deteriorate rapidly.

Check the speedo cable connection at the rear of the dash. It's really difficult to get it to attach correctly at this point, and the readings will be a little screwy if the attachment isn't 100%. One of those pliers-like tools for installing car radio antennas works pretty well for pulling the speedo cable into the rear of the dash.

if your not going to be keeping it for long dont waste money on new parts other than keeping it running.

my 2 cents...

To NCross:
I plan on keeping it long once she stops using it I will be doing something exrta with it while it's hers I am customizing my monte.
To Evil Aviator:
The coolant looks real nice and green, if I drain it should I filter and reuse or screw it and just get some new stuff? Probly new I am not that cheap...
The other stuff being a waste of money, yeah I know but astetics (sp?) wise meh when I have extra $ why not? I meen most of it is only like 15$ except for the seats, interior, and tinting (I tend to use the car as a hobby to get outa the house).
As for the seats my uncle does upholstring so it would only be at cost... probly get stuck doing it myself and him just telling me how.
Thanks for the tip on the Thermo and weather stripping, so far I only see a bad spot on rear window and for the thermo it seems to read fine but if its not uber expencive I will definately change it.

On the speedo cable, I think it is on the rear of the dash correctly it just slid and clipped on. Is there anything I should look at while putting it on? The clip just spun in circles didnt really have a specific spot even the groove was all around and the pin going in was square so I didn't see a reason to look and see if it went in a certain way. The only thing I found odd was that it was almost a foot and a half longer than origional cable.
