Talking My RX7 lives!!!

My recently acquired 1987 Mazda RX-7 GXL is now up and running! I recently bought my RX-7 for 150 bucks with no keys, no gas tank installed and a completely screwed up fuel pump. The car also has no O2 sensor and is missing some other kind of sensor and I recently found out that the car has no throttle cable!!!

So after spending the last few days getting keys cut for it, installing a recently purchased fuel pump assembly, and getting the tires aired back up, I have finally gotten it going!

The car has been sitting since 2000 so I was surprised that it would do anything. But the car idle's pretty good considering its missing it's o2 sensor. But I can't figure out what the other sensor is that is missing. It looks like it screws in on the OMP? There isn't anything coming out of it so it must be some kind of temp sensor.

Evidently, when my car was sitting up at the mechanic's shop that it was at, it was used as some kind of parts car. But I have yet to figure out why it was being used as one, the engine idle's great and has no signs of low compression, even though I have yet to drive it.

I originally bought this car to do a V-8 swap in but now that my car is running, I kind of like the sound of a Rotary. But I have a question to ask everyone...

If someone had 5,000 dollars to spend on an FC to make into a very fast, great handling, awesome car, could this be done?

Thanks in advance,
Vincent

we want pics!

Stick with the rotary!

For 5 grand, I would first do tune up stuff (replace spark plugs, clean injectors, bleed brakes, et.)

For performance, I would start with lightweight 17 or 18 in wheels and good tires, and then exhaust and intake.

That was my thoughts exactly. I figure that I could do the turbo swap with a front mount, aftermarket clutch assy, LSD rear, five lug swap with s5 brakes, and that would make it pretty awesome. I even know where I can get a standalone for cheap.

Later,
Vince

Yes but there is evidence that the car has had an engine rebuild, because the rotors look newer. I have also found out that the clutch doesn't work. When its running, and I put the car in gear and let off the clutch, nothing happens....lol.

I am starting to think that maybe it's best just to fix whatever is wrong with it and sell it and get a Turbo II.

Id do a rebuild before any performance stuff. Or at least get a compression test to see how the engine is.

Good luck thou, projects are fun and you will always learn lots.

Yeah I tend to agree with you guys. I plan on fixing whatever else is wrong with my S4 and then selling it. I think once I get the clutch problem solved, it will be a good car for someone. I'm gonna get a new throttle cable for it, an o2 sensor, and clutch/brakes, and probably sell it for 1,500.

Still looking for a clean T2 thats close to me...

Later,
Vincent.

if i had the 5k i would do what u said above. when you buy a t2 with mods theres no pride because you didnt work on it and if u build it you have pride knowing that u build it and no one else. There no better feeling than a car firing up after all the hard work you did.
