My REW swap
The FC started off as a basic NA S5 with a street port, but with my luck, the oil control rings went on it. I drove the car around many months like that, constantly dealing with large oil consumptions and the embarassing smoke.
That was when I found the REW swap done by Zbrown and Boost innovations. I know his was a bit more intense with all the custom fabrication and the GT42, but it still motivated me to do this "not worth it" swap. So a few months ago, I picked up a 13b-rew for a great deal. It's all stock except its setup to be non-sequential and to be premixed. In the summer, I ended up giving it a quick paint job and began assembling everything. I followed the non-seq vac lines from a thread at Nopistons.com, not sure how accurate it was. Im using an S4 TII transmission and a Spec clutch. For the engine management, I picked up a used E8 that was previously tuned for a stock REW with non-sequential turbos. I will be taking parts of the engine bay off and putting them in my box sand blaster and repainting them. My main concern right now is getting it running. I will be ordering a lot more parts once it fires up, especially a new radiator. Here are pictures of where I am now (I wish I took in progress pictures). Im only 18 and this is my first swap which I do after my Welding class or on my days off from work. It may look like a mess, but it is coming, so be gentle :) (I don't know why the pictures look fuzzy, but whatever) http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/PB300277.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/PB300278.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/PB300281.jpg |
Its a start, i always wonderd what it would be like to have a 13brew in a fc:Wconfused
|
i just want the intake manifold!!
|
Yeah, I could have went with a TII swap, and then put the FD UIM on, but meh.
Haha, the swap is a lot of fun. My dad is doing rust repair on a Plymouth Satellite beside me so its a great experience. |
Nice job! How did you choose to mount yours? What all do you have left to do?
|
i had to do rust repair on my FC gas tank... not a great experience

Im using those Motifab mounts, but once I get going a bit more, I will be making a whole new setup. These mounts just came with my engine so I decided to give them a try. In all honestly, they arent THAT bad, they are solid so we'll see. |
Thats quite an ambitious project for such a young man. . . keep it up. I've always wanted to do that.

How long have you been working on this swap? |
I bought the engine in the summer, but didnt start on it till I was finished boarding, heating, and painting the shop which was about 3 months ago.
I tore the NA out at the end of September. Ive come a long way in that amount of time especially for the amount of free time I have. My dads a big car nut so I have every tool I need which saves a lot of time. I shouldnt have any problems firing it up, the Haltech was terminated when I bought it, just had to wire the ignition and fuel pump up. That kind of brings me to this question (i posted it in the Haltech section, no answers) but since this Haltech was running on the REW + FD coils, will I have to change the settings in Halwin to make it work with my FC coils? |
looks good. i would have went with the RE though.
|
The FC and FD trigger the trailing coal differently (FC has a toggle signal), I'm not sure if that will require different settings though. Make sure all your CAS wiring is shielded... I don't think the FD CAS has as many problems with the Halteach as the FC CAS, but be mindful of electrical noise.
|
Yeah its not shielded properly ATM, I still need to fix one of the clips.
What do you recommend for shielding? I guess I can always see what happens when I try and crank it over with the current settings, I'll see what it looks like in the software. The reason I went with the REW over the RE was because the REW was 50kms away from me, no shipping hassles. |

Good job mang,
I did the REW too What are you doing for an innercooler? Move the battery to the passenger bin and it will give you some room. IMO For shielding I used foil tape and then put it in tubing so it wouldn't be ugly What years satellite? I had a 74 I won't thred jack ......any thing I can help answer PM me sameless pic |

Make sure all your grounds are good and clean too. That helps alot. |

That might be because the REW doesn't have a CAS.

yeah that air to water looks interesting.
I was planning on making my own v mount, but I want to get it all set up so I can try and fire it up, then Ill go wild ;) |

except for the fact that it does, it just happens to be a Hall-effect type that is mounted on the main pulley (like most modern vehicle), vs the reluctor type that the FC has.

[QUOTE=sub9lulu;8766191]more info on that air / water intercooler setup ?[/QUOT

Hm, very interesting.
Im going to pick up a 2 bar map sensor at Lordco tomorrow (ECU is tuned for the 2 bar), is there a specific part number I need? Or will any GM work? There won't really be any progress this week as Im working after class a lot. I will be asking lots of questions, but any suggestions so far? |

He means well, Im sure.
I know he isnt to wild about the mounting method I chose, but neither am I. Other than that, I dont know why he has a reason to hate. When I get it running, then Ill start running my mouth, haha. EDIT also looked in the haltech manual, got my part number...doh! |
No pictures yet, but I put on my downpipe and I will need to extend my exhaust about 6" to meet with it.
Bought my MAP sensor, O2 sensor, and a Wl220 belt for the waterpump to the main pulley. Im still waiting for my alt and starter (stupid customs). Just thought Id bump my thread up so I dont forget about it :) |
