is that v8 in the background plan B?
jk, lookin good. |
Got bored, bled the clutch, bought all my fluids, belt, O2 sensor etc.
Also went and tidied up my wiring a bit, still need to paint my ypipe and alternator, but since I have a day off tomorrow finally, Im going to fill her up and try to start it. my Haltech is detected in Halwin, so Im pretty stoked on that. Took some more pictures with my Christmas present. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/DSC_0099.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/DSC_0098.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/DSC_0091.jpg |
Great project. It's coming along nicely. Any bigger plans with the REW?
|
I wanna be confident I can swap an engine in and have it running nearly stock.
After that, I want to get my hands on a blown coolant seal REW core, rebuild, port, and single turbo it. By that time, I should be making some decent money welding and be able to have a bit more room for "errors" :) |
That sounds good. I was thinking about running a stock REW in mine but there's a lot more work than just running my stock S4 TII. I'm hoping to build a track car by myself in the future.
You know how to tune that Haltech or you planning on learning? I wanna run stand-alone but I have no idea where to begin tuning. |
No idea how to tune...I mean, I grasp the concept, but Ill leave that alone for now.
I bought my Haltech off of a forum member who was running the same engine setup in his FD. Kind of a shame, all my "in progress" pictures were taken with my cell phone, so I only have these current ones. I wish I would have done a nice big build thread, but still, feels good to be doing the swap myself. |
Well I got it cranking with the starter, sounds healthy.
Now I need to fix my fuel leak and make new oil cooler lines. Any quick ways to make an oil cooler line until my SS lines get here? I really want to just fire it up for a few seconds. |
Not really. Think about the pressures the lines are under with cold oil and high idles. Hell, prefectly "good" brand new lines can leak sometimes. Sadly, I'd wait. I also don't enjoy being on my hands and knees inhaling brakekleen fumes de-oiling stuff if I don't have to ;)
|
Lol whats up man i know u dnt know me or whatever but i've been doin the same swap for a little bit now thats crazy. just thought i'd say somethin im almost done myself.
|
Yeah its deffinatly a time consuming swap...I was using my stock FC cooler lines, they BARELY made it to the rear iron, but I know someone close who has some stainless lines from Mazdatrix that Im gonna buy for now.
In all honesty, just hearing it crank was fucking sweet lol |
Looks like it's coming along really well. Good luck getting it running (and getting all your stuff in the mail, lol). It's also inspiring to see other young members (I'm 17) doing something big with their car, it makes me think 'Maybe it is possible to make something without a full-blown career and a huge budget.' :icon_tup:
|
If you live at home, then that's the time.
My dad happens to be a car nut, so I have a huge selection of tools, and when I was bolting the flywheel nut on, he came home from the shop where they work on locomotives and he handed me a socket and bar big enough lol. The reason I'm doing this swap is because the car has put me through a lot of shit from the oil rings going out and other unlucky crap. I want to forget about those times and make it run great with the power of an FD :) Deffinately need a pay check coming in to do anything like this. I work at a grocery store so I try not to let my account go lower than $1000, Im also not wasting money on exterior appearance or stereo systems until I get it running and road worthy. |
Im doin the same shit man. I been workin on my stuff for like 9 months (periodicly) Im running the fd oil cooler and the only reason im doin the swap is cuz my F&*kin motor blow out to when i was doin like 130 on this strip. But anyways its all good im runnin the fd tranny fits nice.
|
props on the swap it took me about a year and a half to complete mine and ive dropped about $20,000 into it total and the damn thing still dosnt run lol. but another $600 and it will so no worries.

Hot shit! Man I am working on the same project right now.... Im running stock 13B-REW. Ecu, twin oil coolers, twin turbo set etc. I am also using the TII trans... Need drive shaft hmmm, what drive shaft did you use? the TII or custom? Ive been working on it for nearly a month now coming down to the home stretch of the project...

So since I have a shitty welder, it makes spray transfer nearly impossible, so I didnt want to relocate the big round cross brace making my vmount a wee bit hard to do...My rad isnt sitting at 90 degrees to the IC, but what I was planning on doing was making a piece that bolts to the radiator that covers up the ugly brackets n such and to seal more air in. I bought the summit rad for $100 locally, so Im trying to make it work, but if I alter the angle, is moves it to the ground or it hits the waterpump.
Heres a pic, but bare with it since im still working on it http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...l/DSC_0007.jpg |
How tights the dp to the frame & subframe? I've got a spare REW. Looks fun :)
|
its AMAZING how well the DP fits, its like it SHOULD be there lol, only thing is your exhaust might have to be extended
|
Cool I'm going to have to do some test fitting. Anyone got a good picture of that area and the mount setups?
|
Ill get both of those for you by the weekend...
Any input on the VMount? Like I said, I think thats the best I can do with the tools I personally have. I think it will look good once I get the duct and covers all done |
looking good!
|
thanks man, positive feedback is good to hear!
I want to drive it so bad lol :( |
The FC and FD trigger the trailing coal differently (FC has a toggle signal), I'm not sure if that will require different settings though. Make sure all your CAS wiring is shielded... I don't think the FD CAS has as many problems with the Halteach as the FC CAS, but be mindful of electrical noise.
|
Thanks man, Ill deffinatly look into the ignition settings because I believe you are right.
And I will be shielding the wires. |
