I would like some comments towards my kind of Ram Air Idea.
The operation:

-First i bought this aluminium tube from a store that sales kitchenware! Cost: 10e.
-Then I bought a spare plastic shield that I was gonna cut, just in case. 1e.
-After, I cut the plastic shield (look at the foto!) enough to get the aluminium tube through it.
-I made the aluminium tube like an "S". The upper end goes right into the stock plastic tube that gets air into the stock airbox.
-I got aluminium tube right through the plastic shield, and got the second end right into the front opening.
-I did a small hole into the aluminium tube and put the stock plastic pin that holds a plastic shield into position, in a way that holds perfectly the aluminium tube.

The diameter of the aluminium tube is 9cm.

My Ram Air is ready! I did a test and its holding great in position, very important step one. I went all the way till 180km/h and its rock solid. I will test it with 250km/h ASAP.

The hole problem was that: I have a cone filter and not TID and CAI still, since I am waiting for the TID to be ready. Then I will do a CAI. But from where will the fresh cold air will come from? First and by far best thought is the classic vent through the headlight. But I didnt want to spoil the stock look. So I did this (look at the fotos) just in order to PRESS cold air into my cone filter. Its working great till now. I will measure it with tmp gauge and pressure gauge ASAP.

Any ideas? BTW, the hole setup is full reversable, meaning that I can make car stock anytime (important if you are willing to sell the car sometime).

 

Major disadvantage:

The hook that holds the hood has to be removed. I have it in the trunk and place it in position my self in about 30 sec. But who needs it?

BTW the hood closes firmly and does not press the aluminium tube (if done properly).

 

any gains over just the plain cone filter? if not its still creative good job!

 

Not sure if it will fit but at autozone I saw one of the BIG flushmount circle mega phone looking things that all the turbo drag racers have on there car to let air to the turbo that would look kinda cool and better at the end there in the grill. not sure how much it was or if theres any HP gains as it is to be worth it.

did you have to cut anything to get the tube to the grill? i went and looked at my car after i read your post couldent figure out how you got the tube down there. let us know when you get those #'s !

Yes, I cut the plastic shield that seperates the space that is infront of the radiator with the space that is behind the upper part of the mask. I describe it as step (3). Thats why I bought a spare one (just in case) in step (2).

If you see carefully foto (3) you will understand that I have cut a hole in the black, plastic shield.

Well, here I am again,

I did a boost measure last night, and I got 0,01bar upgrade with my Ram Air. I am very pleased. Of course I am expecting very much more when my TID and CAI are finished. Especially with the CAI the Ram Air will show its use.

 

though you may see that tiny small bit more after your measurment... this does nothing for the motor... this is poinless because you are not running that hose directly into your intake... this only provides a bit more fresh air for the cone filter if anything at all..... honestly you will benefit a bunch more if you move the filter down into the fender where the washer fluid bottle sits.... its creative and a nice shot to provide more air for the engine but in reality does not work like "nascar" or an indy car.....

I would like to move the cone filter there, but I have to do some mobo jumbo at the chassis of the car... I dont want to do that.
As I said, by far the best thinky is the drill over the headlight. But I also dont want to spoil the stock look- u see I have a cabrio too!

I am waiting the CAI to really explore the full potential of this setup. I will keep you updated.

Well do you know you have to travel at 250kmh to produce 0.1 psi? wont do much except help road dirt get on your filter.

custom intakes are always fancy and always get mad **** talked on um
i think it's fancy... plus it's definitely a CAI.

 

Just buy a ******* cone, i've seen some ghetto rigging but this takes the cake.

Well mate, I dont have to drive actually at 250km/h to produce 0,1psi. That was not the goal. The goal was to bring some cold air into my cone filter. That did it. You see the problem is that warm air has low density. So when my filter is sucking warm air, its less air when the same amount of air is cold... I did say that I will expect the full potential of this setup when I do the CAI. I also have a wash-able filter so dirt is not the problem. Hot air is.

Can you explain to me what you mean please? If you are suggesting for my to buy a cone filter, please read again the thread, cause I have a ******* cone. If you mean something else, I cant understand what. Shoot first, ask later?

Apollo is the Greek god who's statue was beheaded in the recent film Troy. What that's got to do with anything is anyone's guess but the guys over at the K&N have named their new universal induction kit after the bow wielding Grecian Sun God. Featuring a tough cotton gauze filter protected by even tougher resin housing to keep the gauze safe from high temperatures. The Apollo is a closed air intake system which is good news because it doesn't suck in unwanted hot air from your car's engine bay. It comes with a 70mm outlet but don't flip out if you're motor doesn't have the same sized inlet because you can just use one of the stepped adaptors to fit them together. The Apollo is capable of handling 300bhp so can do the job even if you're car's packing more beef than a butcher's backroom.
