Is my paint shiny or dull?

I was on the 350z forums. Shooting the **** about detailing. And post a couple of pics of my car.

All the replies I get are "not impressed".
Or "not shiny at all"

Now I spent alot of time waxing it, and i think its pretty shiny. Those z guys think they are the **** or something and always look down whenever I post in their.

Anwyay shiny or not?

because your paint doesn't have metal flakes in it so it's not all glittery and stuff like all the new 'metallic' color paints new cars have now.

How much did the paint cost you, look like it has a little orange peel. You can get it looking alot better if you took it somewhere and had them hit it with a high speed buff.
But I think it looks pretty damn nice as it is, I'm a bit jealous myself. :o)

Dude, your paint has got to be one of the best for having an S4! That can't be the original paint! Just tell those 350z owners to wait and see how nice their paint is after 16+ years.

No, it's because 350Z owners are THE most **** enthusiasts around when it comes to paint. I really don't know why, the Nissan paint job is horrible when you're talking about quality work. There is a ton of orange peel and I've even seen some runs on brand new 350's as well. (Subaru paintwork stinks too, lots of runs and blotches, Honda does good work IMHO).

Did you know that the enthusiasts in the detailing section of the the www.my350z.com forums count how many coats of "zaino" polish they use on their cars? They list it in their signatures as a modification!!

For a 15 yr old car, your paint loks great to me

I'd say it's shiney, they're probably just being ****** because it's not a perfect mirror.. you'll get better results with a black car next time you do a paint job I loves me black! Half of my car is a good mirror

350Z guys are gay. But I would hardly call their paint finishes shitty. As a matter of fact my FC is being painted Daytona Blue Metallic, which is an option on the 350Z. It is an expensive pearl paint, far from shitty.

OEM paint is always good, the actual paint-work on a 350 is crap. Don't get me wrong, they look good but the work is inferior to many other OEM paint-work and far from what would be called concourse level paint. Our 350Z @ the shop has about 17K on it and the front bumper is all chipped up (it's waxed regularly). They use poor clearcoat as well. I just don't understand why those guys are so into their paint when, compared to lots of other OEM, it stinks. There are one or two real **** guys there that know the nissan paint job is crap and had their cars re-done by a pro within a few weeks of taking delivery!! Over the top of course.

i know this guy that has a 90 300zx, and all he ever does is glorify how awesome it is and puts me down for my car, because it doesnt have 475 rwhp like his does. I'm just like...."yeah, your the moron that just took out a loan for 10,000 to buy a new engine and 2 new turbos. I got my car for 1000$" i hate it when people are conceited about their cars. the kid wanted to make a decal of his dyno chart and time slip (and i swear to god im not kidding). dont let those Z guys get you down.

Thanks guys, I didnt paint the car, the previous owner did.
I've been looking through all the old receipts, and it was done in jan 00' it seems.

The paint does have a little orange peel and a couple of scratches that can be buffed out. I have my own buffer so its no problem.

And sadly I also find that most 350z owners seem to be overly cocky
Its a nice car, but nothing crazy.

I'd say it probably looks as good as their new 350's if not better. (don't care for the glitter finish)
