My New Rotary.

So i just picked up an 88 gxl from Njgreenbud. it has 119k on it and its about 90% of the way through an auto to manual conv. it had no battery, only tps was off, and missing a few nuts and bolts all around. has a k&n cone filter already on it and a ghetto strut bar. no radio, no speakers.

i went out picked up new sparks, a battery, new battery terminals, and some of the missing screws to remount the tps and secure the drivers seat.

after installing said new items. i was able to get it to turn over. and rev it up, but it dies immediately once i let off the gas. leading me to believe that the tps needs some attention and possible replacement.

however im a poor college student... so it takes some time to get parts... im currently on spring break in fl and overdrafted by about $200

first step is to restore to running condition.
finish the trans swap crossmember, fix body damage. tires, brakes, some major cleaning.

future plans include new suspension, racing beat exhaust, change the interior out (dont like red). new audio system (i like the audio), an exterior paint job to a nice color (not black, not white, not silver, not red), mabey some body modifications. and will be posted in this thread.

Hopefully i can get some light track time with this, and eventually get a tII for my main track car if i preform like i hope to

Thumbs up Hey!!!

Wow I saw the link to this thread in the old for sale thread and then saw the link for the for sale in here, it was like a worm hole or something......

But I'm glad you got a thread started for the rebuild progress. Good luck with it and keep up posted.

Check for a vacuum leak on your intake between your AFM and your throttle body. A leak there will make your car stall like you described.

Heres a little update since i got tottally swamped this semester. Summer is starting, im starting a new job (Borgata), and i have run and moved the car under its own power. got a new battery. and most of the little stuff is fixed like the seat is bolted in now and blah... i have new vaccum line but i still need to sit and replace it all.. there is a really nasty leak you can hear when your under the bonnet.

i still need to save up for new tires, new exhaust (probably Racing Beat), brakes, and to have the crossmember finished.

then register and take it out
the plan is to have it ready by mid june after a few paychecks... but i dont think its going to be so easy...

the main issues is the lack of idling. the car will turn over with a little bit of power assistance, but after dropping from high idle it dies. its been given fresh fuel, a new tps, and ive changed the oil., brand new plugs, and cleaned after replacing the tps. vaccum leak is being looked at.... just asking if theres anything else i should look for. im new to the rx and im going in full speed.
