my new 89 TII fuel cuts out when taking tight turns
this is a pic of my new 89 TII rx7 that i bought. i used to have an 82 rex and now ive moved my way up, but every time i take a corner semi fast my engine dies for a split second like the pick up tube is going dry. do i have to put in a corection tank or if this a different kind of problem. please help
yeah that sounds like a definate fuel starvation thing. is your gas tank low? it may sound retarded but a low fuel level could cause whats happening to your car. other than that im not sure what could be causing it. might be a bad fuel pump, or a clogged filter of some sort. check everything in your fuel system.
Get a smaller tank, with a pump on that. Set it up so the pump in the main tank pumps to that smaller one, keeping it full. Then have a second pump which pumps fuel to the engine. It eliminates any fuel swosh, because the smaller tank just doesnt have enough room in it. The pump in the main tank should keep it full enough.
its a freshly rebuilt engine and turbo. so far ive got it street ported with 3inch all the way back from the turbo, i have the fuel cut chip, so im running 10psi, no smog crap, and im looking for a new clutch. i found a dual friction centerforce for $460 but im looking for something a little cheaper with good performance so if anyone has any sugestions let me know please
as far as putting a correction tank in i was hoping that there was an easier fix
the fuel cut off problem happpens even with a half tank and sometimes fuller.
if anyone has any sugestions for mods please let me know

If you haven't changed them out already, or they haven't been changed since you got the car, it is a good thing to do just so in the future if you ever have any problems you can rule out some of the fuel system.
Nice car BTW, there's 2 91 TIIs down in VA beach/hampton/norfolk area.
What'd you do with the 82? I still have an 83 that needs a rear end assy.
thanks for the advise i will do that. as far as the two turbo II's ive met a couple of turbo to guys in va beach and one of them works at the mazda dealership and im not sure what year his is, but his is a pile that sounds fast.

The problem is from a dirty intake filter in the fuel tank
Im sorry to say this but youre going to have to have 2 custom carbon fiber gas tanks made and line them with titanium. Then get a fuel pump from NASA and have it pump from the first one into the second one and then back into the first one, around the car, under it, back over and into the 2nd one. After that get a fuel pump rated for at least 5,000 hp and pump that to the engine.
Estimated Cost: $132,000
Or you could just replace the fuel pump sock and be SURE to drain the tank while youre at it or it will just clog back up.

If in a hurry, you can take the filter off the fuel pump, and soak it in acetone. Works for me, anyway. A sign of a really bad one, is that when you remove the fuel pump, there will be fuel trapped inside the filter. On a really bad one, the fuel will not drain out. It will just sit there inside the filter and barely drip out.
I didn't ever do this, but you might take the filter off the pump, reinstall it, and see if the problem persists. Then reinstall the filter whether or not the problem persists or not. I figure the filter up front should protect your fuel injection system for this brief testing period.

Check the electrical connectors to the fuel pump, one probably is corroded. Even if they look fine, take them off and clean them off then put them back on with dielectric grease. This is one of the classic problems with our cars.
well i changed the fuel pump sock filter and the inline fuel filter and i havent had any problems yet, but it is wet here so i cant really put it to the test. thanks for the input guys.
for your clutch alternative: get a ACT (I think there better than Centerforce anyway). The kit is only 290 for a Copper 6 puck that can handle mucho torq. I jus got mine from rx7trix.com so I recommend. great service!
im looking for a full disc because im not sure how long a six puck would last. the fluid came out ok but i could tell it hadent been changed since 1989 though it had crap on it and in it and it also had a rip in it, the new one was a vast improvement to the old one. i would definetly recomend changing it.
Yes, but a 6-puck is something of an 'ON / OFF' switch, with nothing in between (can you say 'pain in the ***???), whereas the stock disc with the ACT 34% upgraded PP is the nicest feeling clutch I have ever had the pleasure of using in my entire life
Get the ACT Street / Strip clutch, stock disc with a 34% increase PP. Sweet stuff, and less than $350!
Have fun

ive already bought the six puck act clutch kit and it was only 300 and the disc is a sprung copper six puck so it wont have such a rough ingagement like you say, if it was unsprung then yeah it would be all go or nothing but my friends 91 TII has the sam clutch and its nice and smooth. i cant wait for my clutch to come in

A 6 puck isnt that bad. Once you get used to it, you can drive it just like any other clutch.
You could also get a sprung 6 puck which would help a little but I dont think ACT sells them for our cars.
